Tapentadol versus Oxycodone for Opioid-related Adverse Drug Events and Clinical Outcomes After Inpatient Surgery
Oxycodone is a commonly prescribed opioid for postoperative pain. However, there has been a marked increase in the use of tapentadol over the previous decade due to a perceived superior safety profile of tapentadol compared to oxycodone. There is limited real-world evidence on the safety of tapentadol compared to oxycodone after surgery. The primary objective was to examine the impact of tapentadol compared to oxycodone use on the incidence of opioid-related adverse drug events after surgery. Data for adult surgical patients receiving tapentadol or oxycodone during hospitalisation between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 202...

Association of participants who screened positive for night eating syndrome with physical health, sleep problems, and weight status in an Australian adult population
CONCLUSIONS: Several physical health problems were found to be significantly associated with the spNES group including sleep problems, increased BMI, increased levels of pain and lower self-reported physical health-related quality of life. Consequently, future research exploring the complex interaction between NES and these medical conditions may provide further insight into the diagnosis, screening tools and management of NES. Additionally, this study highlights the need for future studies which use larger population-based samples.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III. Evidence obtained from well-designed cohort or case-control an...

Beneficial and harmful effects of physical activity on care-seeking for low back pain: the AUTBACK study
ConclusionPeople who engage in higher baseline volumes of sedentary behaviour or physical activity in the household setting (e.g. housework, gardening, yard work, general household maintenance) utilise 1.6 times more care for LBP over 1 year. Findings suggest that higher volumes of these behaviours may be harmful for LBP. No intensities, volumes, or domains of physical activity demonstrated clear benefits for LBP. Where feasible, patients and clinicians should collaborate to screen and develop strategies to reduce engagement in sedentary behaviour or physical activity in the household setting. Contextual factors (e.g. pati...

Periods shouldn't bring any adolescents ’ world to a full stop. Period. An online survey of adolescents’ experience of menstruation.
Few studies have explored what specific outcome measures contained in assessment tools for period and pelvic pain are most relevant to adolescents. Co-design is a valuable method of ensuring input from those with lived experience. The Longitudinal Study of Teenagers with Endometriosis Periods and Pelvic Pain in Australia (LongSTEPPP) Co-Design Periods Survey comprised an anonymous online survey of adolescents ’ experience of menstruation to inform patient-reported outcome measures for the larger 5-year project.

Stepped collaborative care for pain and posttraumatic stress disorder after major trauma: a randomized controlled feasibility trial
CONCLUSIONS: Stepped collaborative care was low-cost, feasible, and acceptable to people at risk of PTSD or pain after major trauma.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONAfter hospitalization for injury, people can experience difficulty accessing timely support to manage posttraumatic stress, pain and other concerns.Stepped case management-based interventions that provide individualized support and collaborative care have reduced posttraumatic stress symptom severity for patients admitted to American trauma centers. We showed that this model of care could be adapted to target pain and mental health in the trauma system in Victoria...

Health-related quality of life in patients accessing medicinal cannabis in Australia: The QUEST initiative results of a 3-month follow-up observational study
by Margaret-Ann Tait, Daniel S.J. Costa, Rachel Campbell, Richard Norman, Leon N. Warne, Stephan Schug, Claudia Rutherford AimsPatients with chronic health conditions not responding to conventional treatment can access medicinal cannabis (MC) prescriptions from clinicians in Australia.
