Whole-pelvic irradiation with boost to involved nodes and prostate in node-positive prostate cancer-long-term data from the prospective PLATIN-2  trial
CONCLUSION: Definitive radiation to the lymphatic drainage with SIB to the involved nodes and prostate is a safe and effective treatment approach for patients with treatment-naïve, node-positive prostate cancer with excellent infield tumor control rates and tolerable toxicity. Location rather than number of involved nodes is a major risk factor for progression.PMID:37640867 | DOI:10.1007/s00066-023-02129-y

Protective effects of exogenous melatonin therapy against oxidative stress to male reproductive tissue caused by anti-cancer chemical and radiation therapy: a systematic review and meta-analysis of animal studies
ConclusionIn male rodents, melatonin therapy was related to improved testicular histopathology, reproductive hormones, testis and body weights, and reduced levels of oxidative markers in testicular tissues of male rodents. Future meticulous studies are recommended to provide a robust scientific backbone for human applications.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?ID=CRD42022355293, identifier CRD42022355293.

Deep learning-based detection and classification of multi-leaf collimator modeling errors in volumetric modulated radiation therapy
CONCLUSIONS: We demonstrated that the deep learning-based models could feasibly detect and classify TF and DLG errors in VMAT dose distributions, depending on the magnitude of the error, treatment site, and the degree of mimicked measurement doses.PMID:37633834 | DOI:10.1002/acm2.14136

Low-Level Laser Therapy for the Treatment of Oral Mucositis Induced by Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: The application of laser therapy results in decreased severity of oral mucositis from radiation and chemotherapy. Our study shows that the application of low-level laser therapy in the treatment of transplant mucositis has excellent efficacy in relieving the symptoms and severity of mucositis.PMID:37629703 | DOI:10.3390/medicina59081413

Radiotherapy management of paediatric cancers with synchronous metastasis
Cancer Radiother. 2023 Aug 24:S1278-3218(23)00168-3. doi: 10.1016/j.canrad.2023.03.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCancer in childhood represent 1% of all the new diagnosed cancers. About 30% of children with cancer receive radiation therapy, representing about 600 to 700 patients per year in France. As a consequence, paediatric cancers with synchronous metastasis is a very rare situation in oncology, with usually poor standard of care. However, considerable efforts are made by paediatric oncology scientific societies to offer trials or treatment consensus despite these rare situations. The article proposes to synthesiz...

Radiation Therapy Changed the Second Malignancy Pattern in Rectal Cancer Survivors
Conclusions: RT may change the second malignancy pattern in rectal cancer survivors; the risk of prostate cancer decreased, and the risk of thyroid cancer increased most significantly.PMID:37629753 | PMC:PMC10456705 | DOI:10.3390/medicina59081463

Gynecological Fistulae-Has Anything Changed in the Diagnosis and Treatment over the Last Decade? A Narrative Literature Review
Medicina (Kaunas). 2023 Aug 12;59(8):1455. doi: 10.3390/medicina59081455.ABSTRACTGynecological fistulae are a rare but severe complication of radiation therapy, pelvic surgery, prolonged labor, cesarean deliveries, or inflammatory bowel diseases. A gynecological fistula is an abnormal pathway formed between the urinary and gynecological tract, most commonly located between the urinary bladder and vagina. Vesico-uterine and vesicovaginal fistulae are an important health issue, common in women of reproductive age in developing countries with limited access to obstetrical care. Various surgical techniques have been described ...
