Prevalence of Type III Secretion System (T3SS) and Biofilm Development in Genetically Heterogeneous Clinical Isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from Nigeria
This study examined 430 clinical isolates from our previous work, comprising 181 MDR (multidrug-resistant) and 249 non-MDR isolates. Biofilm production and type III secretion toxins were determined using colorimetric microtiter plate assay and polymerase chain reaction, respectively. Carbapenem-resistant isolates were typed using REP-PCR and BOX-PCR. Biofilm production was detected in 386/430 (89.8%) of the isolates. Out of 386 biofilm producers, 167 (43.3%) were multidrug-resistant isolates. What evidence for a cholera vaccine? Jaime Ferr án's submissions to the Prix Bréant
This article analyses how the French Academy of Sciences assessed Jaime Ferrán's cholera vaccine submitted for the Prix Bréant in the 1880s. Ferrán, a Spanish independent physician, discovered the treatment in 1884 and tried it on thousands of patients during the cholera outbreak in Valencia the following year. Prevalence of multi-antimicrobial resistant non-typhoidal Salmonella isolated from filth flies at wet markets in Klang, Malaysia, and their survival in the simulated gastric fluid
This study aims to investigate the prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant NTS, especially Salmonella Enteritidis and S. Typhimurium harboured by filth flies at wet markets, and investigate their survival in the simulated gastric fluid (SGF). Filth flies (n = 90) were captured from wet markets in Klang, Malaysia, and processed to isolate Salmonella spp. The isolates (n = 16) were identified using the multiplex-touchdown PCR and assessed their antimicrobial susceptibility against 11 antimicrobial agents. Tinea capitis outbreak and other superficial mycosis in an urban community of Medell ín
Conclusion. Tinea capitis was the most common clinical form, and M. canis was the most frequently isolated species. The use of steroids as the first and only option for empiric treatment was worth of notice.
