Does employer involvement in primary health care enhance return to work for patients with stress-related mental disorders? a cluster randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: The PRIMA intervention, which applied a standardized procedure for employer involvement in the rehabilitation process for patients with stress-related disorders, actually increased time to RTW compared to TAU. However, at 24 months, the benefit of TAU could no longer be confirmed. The study was registered on 16/01/2017 (ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03022760).PMID:37730561 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02151-0

Highlighting the idea of exerkines in the management of cancer patients with cachexia: novel insights and a critical review
CONCLUSION: Our understanding of the underlying physiological mechanisms related to the significance of investigating exerkines in cancer cachexia is currently quite basic. Nonetheless, this demonstrated that resistance and aerobic exercise can contribute to the reduction and control of the disease in individuals with cancer cachexia, as well as in survivors, by inducing changes in exerkines.PMID:37730552 | DOI:10.1186/s12885-023-11391-3

Both moderate- and high-intensity exercise training increase intramyocellular lipid droplet abundance and modify myocellular distribution in adults with obesity
This study compared high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with more conventional moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) on intramyocellular lipid content, as well as LD characteristics (size and number) and abundance within the intramyofibrillar (IMF) and subsarcolemmal (SS) regions of type I and type II skeletal muscle fibers in adults with obesity. Thirty-six adults with obesity (BMI=33±3 kg/m2) completed 12 weeks (4d/week) of either HIIT (10x1 min, 90% HRmax + 1 min active recovery; n=19) or MICT (45 min steady-state exercise, 70% HRmax; n=17), while on a weight-maintaining diet throughout training. Skeletal m...

Pain Education and Knowledge (PEAK) Consensus Guidelines for Neuromodulation: A Proposal for Standardization in Fellowship and Training Programs
J Pain Res. 2023 Sep 13;16:3101-3117. doi: 10.2147/JPR.S424589. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe need to be competent in neuromodulation is and should be a prerequisite prior to completing a fellowship in interventional pain medicine. Unfortunately, many programs lack acceptable candidates for these advanced therapies, and fellows may not receive adequate exposure to neuromodulation procedures. The American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN) desires to create a consensus of experts to set a minimum standard of competence for neurostimulation procedures, including spinal cord stimulation (SCS), dorsal root ganglion stimula...

Behavior Management Training for Parents of Children with Preschool ADHD Based on Parent-Child Interactions: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled, Follow-Up Study
CONCLUSION: After continuous intervention for eight weeks, parents were able to help the children with preschool ADHD to improve their ADHD symptoms and emotional behavioral and social functioning significantly, and the efficacy was maintained at the four-month follow-up; the systemic-based parent training in behavior management (PTBM) is applicable to the treatment of preschool ADHD and is worth promoting.PMID:37727252 | PMC:PMC10506873 | DOI:10.1155/2023/3735634

Boosting affective control with bifrontal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS): a proof-of-concept study in healthy individuals
Behav Res Ther. 2023 Sep 4;169:104401. doi: 10.1016/j.brat.2023.104401. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAffective control refers to the ability to regulate emotions and is considered a marker of mental health. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a non-invasive brain stimulation technique, holds promise to enhance affective control. In this between-subjects study in healthy individuals, we investigated the effects of bifrontal tDCS on core processes and higher-level markers of affective control. As such, we assessed direct tDCS effects on emotional interference during an affective control task and indirect effects...

Learning to drive with neurological conditions: profile of users of an adapted driver training program and cognitive factors associated with success
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that approximately half of the persons enrolled in a driver training program designed for learners with neurological conditions, obtain a driver's license; and that attention, and to a lesser extent executive functioning and working memory, are related to driving program success.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONIn individual with neurological conditions, learning how to drive can be challenging. An adapted driver training program, involving collaboration between driving instructors and healthcare professionals, simplification of theoretical learning, and increasing driving practice opportunit...

Standardized circuit class group training versus individualized goal-directed group training to improve upper limb function in stroke survivors during in-patient rehabilitation: a pragmatic trial
CONCLUSIONS: A standardized training could reduce the mental workload for therapists, but patients seemed less engaged. A combination of both might be most beneficial.Trial registration: Dutch Trial Register: NL8844 and NL9471IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONProviding a standardized training program after stroke reduces therapists' mental workload.Individualized goal-directed group training results in the best achievement of rehabilitation goals.A combination of standardized and individual training would use best of both intervention modalities.Patients should be involved in the co-creation developing process of training pro...

Predicting hospitalizations for patients with chronic kidney disease
CONCLUSIONS: We developed an algorithm that uses medical claims to identify Medicare patients with CKD stages 3 to 5 who are at highest risk of being hospitalized in the near term. This algorithm could be used as a decision support tool for clinical programs focusing on management of patient populations with CKD.PMID:37729531 | DOI:10.37765/ajmc.2023.89428

Cost-effectiveness of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) versus moderate intensity steady-state (MISS) training in UK cardiac rehabilitation
CONCLUSION: For people with CAD attending CR, HIIT was cost-effective compared to MISS. These findings are important to policy makers, commissioners, and service providers across the healthcare sector.PMID:37730193 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2023.09.005

Effectiveness of a vision-based handle trajectory monitoring system in studying robotic suture operation
J Robot Surg. 2023 Sep 20. doi: 10.1007/s11701-023-01713-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTData on surgical robots are not openly accessible, limiting further study of the operation trajectory of surgeons' hands. Therefore, a trajectory monitoring system should be developed to examine objective indicators reflecting the characteristic parameters of operations. 20 robotic experts and 20 first-year residents without robotic experience were included in this study. A dry-lab suture task was used to acquire relevant hand performance data. Novices completed training on the simulator and then performed the task, while the expert t...

Multidimensional Analysis of a Cell-Free DNA Whole Methylome Sequencing Assay for Early Detection of Gastric Cancer: Protocol for an Observational Case-Control Study
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first registered case-control study designed to investigate a stacked ensemble model integrating several cfDNA features generated from a bisulfite-free whole methylome sequencing assay. These features include methylation patterns, fragmentation profiles, and chromosomal copy number changes, with the aim of identifying the GC population. This study will determine whether multidimensional analysis of cfDNA will prove to be an effective strategy for distinguishing patients with GC from nonmalignant individuals within the Chinese population. We anticipate the THEMIS model will complement the standard-o...
