Analysis of the Efficacy and Recurrence of Omalizumab Use in the Treatment of Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria and Chronic Inducible Urticaria
Conclusion: Omalizumab was effective and safe for CSU and CIndU patients. Patients with CSU responded more quickly to omalizumab and showed a relatively better treatment effect. However, there was a possibility of relapse after discontinuation of omalizumab after complete control of CU, and in these cases, restarting omalizumab treatment after relapse was effective.Int Arch Allergy Immunol

A powerful tool with a narrow focus: Aiming genome-wide association studies at chronic spontaneous urticaria
Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is characterized by itchy wheals and/or angioedema that persist or appear intermittently for at least 6 weeks and can greatly affect quality of life.1,2 CSU is increasingly recognized as an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory disorder.3 A  high percentage of patients have symptoms resistant to treatment, requiring a step-up/step-down approach to balance clinical response with treatment risk.1,2,4 The prevalence of CSU is estimated at 0.5% to 1% in the United States and European counties and up to 4% to 5% in Asian and South American countries (data from Africa and other regions are lac...

A case of persistent IgE sensitisation almost two decades following ampicillin anaphylaxis
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this was the first case of positive BAT tested around two decades following the index reaction. This case illustrates that a cautious approach may still be warranted in patients with a history of severe reaction to penicillin regardless of the duration since the reported index reaction.PMID:36916097 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i2.748

Pigeon mite: An underdiagnosed cause of papular urticaria
CONCLUSION: Bird mite infestation should be considered in the differential diagnosis of recurrent pruritus and urticaria, refractory to conventional treatments. Physicians should be aware of this mite infestation in approach to any patient with papular urticaria.PMID:36916094 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i2.667

Effect of Disease Severity on Comorbid Conditions in Atopic Dermatitis: Nationwide Registry-Based Investigation in Finnish Adults
Acta Derm Venereol. 2023 Mar 8;103:adv00882. doi: 10.2340/actadv.v103.4447.ABSTRACTThe majority of registry studies on atopic dermatitis include only patients and diagnoses from specialized healthcare. The aim of this retrospective, real-world cohort study was to evaluate the effect of atopic dermatitis severity on comorbidities and total morbidity, with comprehensive data from both primary and specialty healthcare registries covering the entire Finnish adult population. In total, 124,038 patients were identified (median age 46 years; 68% female) and stratified by disease severity. All regression analyses (median follow-up...
