Oral Immunotherapy for Multiple Foods in a Pediatric Allergy Clinic Setting.
CONCLUSION: A similar approach to that used for peanut OIT can be taken for non-peanut foods, and for multiple foods simultaneously. High baseline allergy test results are not a contraindication to OIT. PMID: 31494236 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association between chronic urticaria and self-reported penicillin allergy.
CONCLUSION: This link between chronic urticaria and self-reported penicillin allergy highlights the need for clinicians to inquire about self-reported penicillin allergy in patients with chronic urticaria and to consider penicillin skin testing. Furthermore, patients who report penicillin allergy might actually have chronic urticaria, indicating the importance of inquiring about chronic urticaria symptoms in patients with self-reported penicillin allergy. Allergy test outcomes in patients self-reported as having penicillin allergy: Two-year experience.
CONCLUSION: Only 28.6% of patients with self-reported penicillin allergy were confirmed to be allergic. Importantly, when the index drug is amoxicillin-clavulanic acid or flucloxacillin, the patients may tolerate amoxicillin. PMID: 27613461 [PubMed - in process]

The natural history of egg allergy in an observational cohort
Background: There are few studies on the natural history of egg allergy, and most are single-site and nonlongitudinal and have not identified early predictors of outcomes. Objective: We sought to describe the natural course of egg allergy and to identify early prognostic markers. Methods: Children age 3 to 15 months were enrolled in a multicenter observational study with either (1) a convincing history of an immediate allergic reaction to egg, milk, or both with a positive skin prick test (SPT) response to the trigger food and/or (2) moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis and a positive SPT response to egg or milk. Children en...

Effect of ivermectin on allergy-type manifestations in occult strongyloidiasis.
CONCLUSION: Serologic testing for strongyloides may be indicated for patients with allergy-type symptoms and a suggestive exposure history. Patients with strongyloidiasis and primarily cutaneous symptoms experienced significant symptomatic improvement after ivermectin therapy. PMID: 27566864 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Achieving The Quadruple Aim To Deliver Value-Based Allergy Care In An Ever-Evolving Healthcare System.
CONCLUSION: As healthcare systems continue to evolve, allergists and immunologists will play a key role in optimizing value by translating emerging evidence into practice and communicating novel approaches to prevent and treat allergic diseases. PMID: 32289524 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Multinational experience with hypersensitivity drug reactions in Latin America.
CONCLUSION: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics were the drugs used in at least 75% of patients. More than half the reactions were treated in the emergency department, whereas epinephrine was administered in fewer than 25% of patients with anaphylaxis. Dissemination of guidelines for anaphylaxis among primary and emergency department physicians should be encouraged. PMID: 25065979 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Food allergy in adolescence and adulthood.
Authors: Ballmer-Weber BK Abstract In young children, food allergy is usually acquired via the gastrointestinal tract and directed toward egg and milk. Adolescent and adult patients, however, mainly acquire food allergy via primary sensitization to inhalant allergens on the basis of cross-reactivity between proteins in inhalant sources and in food. This type of food allergy is frequently mediated by sensitization to broadly represented allergens, or so-called panallergens. Food allergic reactions in adult patients - similar to those in children - range in severity from very mild and local symptoms, as in contact ur...

Synchronous telehealth for outpatient allergy consultations: A 2-year regional experience.
CONCLUSION: Both new and follow-up visits to the allergist/immunologist were well received by patients and demonstrated significant indirect cost savings, with less than one fourth of the patients recommended for an in-person visit. This appears to be the first systematic assessment of TeleAllergy for new and follow-up patient encounters in a clinic-based allergy/immunology practice. Anaphylaxis in a food allergy outpatient department: one-year review.
Conclusion. In accordance to other studies, milk and egg were the most implicated allergens in children. Anaphylaxis in adults reflects the Mediterranean sensitization pattern. Exercise was the most relevant cofactor. PMID: 29384116 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Skin Allergy to Azole Antifungal Agents for Systemic Use: A Review of the Literature.
CONCLUSION: Despite their widespread use, triazoles seem to induce rare cutaneous hypersensitivity reactions, but the pathomechanisms, risk factors, diagnostic and management strategies, including skin tests and challenge tests, are little known and poorly investigated. Attitudes toward allergy: what do the pediatricians think?
CONCLUSION: Increased appropriate referrals and improved patient outcomes could result from efforts to enhance A/I education during medical school and residency, maintain effective communication with referring physicians, and break down referral barriers to improve physicians' attitudes toward A/I. Self-reported penicillin allergy may be undiagnosed chronic urticaria
HOUSTON – The higher prevalence of chronic urticaria in patients with self-reported penicillin allergy suggests that these patients may be confusing one condition with the other, according to a late-breaking study presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and...

Prevalence and Clinical Impact of IgE-Mediated Food Allergy in School Children With Asthma: A Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Food Challenge Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Although food-induced respiratory reactions in children with asthma were rare, they were classified as severe and associated with worse morbidity, greater severity, and poorer control. As the most commonly observed symptoms were coughing and rhinitis, which can be easily misdiagnosed, a proper diagnosis is essential for improving the management of both clinical conditions.
