RANK expression as an independent predictor for response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in luminal-like breast cancer - a translational insight from the GeparX trial
CONCLUSIONS: We report RANK expression to be an independent predictive biomarker for response to NACT in luminal-like breast cancer patients.PMID:37725572 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1801

Consultation on UTUC II Stockholm 2022: diagnostic and prognostic methods —what’s around the corner?
ConclusionCurrent diagnostic methods for UTUC have shortcomings, especially concerning prognostication, which is important for personalized treatment decisions. There are several upcoming methods that may be of interest for UTUC. Most have been studied for urothelial carcinoma of the bladder, and it is important to keep in mind that UTUC is a different entity and not all methods are adaptable or applicable to UTUC.

Oncological recurrence following pathological complete response after neoadjuvant treatment in patients with esophageal cancer - a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: Distant recurrence is the predominant site of treatment failure in patients with pCR and non-pCR grade 1a regression, whereby recurrence rates are much higher in patients with non-pCR.PMID:37721586 | DOI:10.1007/s00423-023-03100-2

Real-world evidence of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer treatment in a Brazilian multicenter cohort: Correlation of pathological complete response with overall survival
CONCLUSION: The pCR rate and its prognostic value varied across BC subtypes. In our study, pCR could be used as a surrogate of favorable clinical outcome, as it was associated with higher OS and DFS rates.PMID:37722319 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2023.103577

Artificial intelligence in breast imaging: potentials and challenges
Phys Med Biol. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1088/1361-6560/acfade. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBreast cancer, which is the most common type of malignant tumor among humans, is a leading cause of death in females. Standard treatment strategies, including neoadjuvant chemotherapy, surgery, postoperative chemotherapy, targeted therapy, endocrine therapy, and radiotherapy, are tailored for individual patients. Such personalized therapies have tremendously reduced the threat of breast cancer in females. Furthermore, early imaging screening plays an important role in reducing the treatment cycle and improving breast cancer prognosis. ...

Single Fraction vs. Fractionated Preoperative Radiosurgery for Resected Brain Metastases: a PROPS-BM International Multicenter Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative MF-SRS was associated with significantly reduced risk of cavity LR in both the unmatched and PSM analyses. There was no difference in ARE, MD, or OS based on fractionation. MF-SRS may be a preferred option for neoadjuvant RT of resected brain metastases. Additional confirmatory studies are needed. A phase III randomized trial of single fraction preoperative vs. postoperative SRS (NRG-BN012) is ongoing (NCT05438212).PMID:37717787 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2023.09.012

Pathologic response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in ovarian cancer and its association with outcome: A surrogate marker of survival
CONCLUSIONS: We validate a three-tier CRS for assessment of pathologic response to NACT in OC and demonstrate its prognostic independence of BRCA status or neoadjuvant bevacizumab use. Improving pR rates may be a useful goal of NACT in OC with the expectation of improved survival. The CRS may be a useful endpoint in clinical trials in OC.PMID:37716223 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2023.09.002

Intratumoral Bacteria as Mediators of Cancer Immunotherapy Response
Cancer Res. 2023 Sep 15;83(18):2985-2986. doi: 10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-23-1857.ABSTRACTMultiple lines of evidence spanning from animal models to human clinical trials indicate that the microbiome influences cancer immunotherapy response. Whereas initial studies focused exclusively on the gastrointestinal (gut) microbiota-tumor axis, more recent studies have examined the possibility that bacteria located within tumor cells or within the tumor microenvironment mediate cancer treatment response. Strikingly, this phenomenon has been demonstrated in cancers that arise in anatomic locations that are traditionally thought to be dev...
