Selection of patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma who may benefit from radiotherapy
Radiat Oncol. 2023 Aug 18;18(1):137. doi: 10.1186/s13014-023-02328-y.ABSTRACTDespite combination chemotherapy demonstrating a positive effect on survival, the clinical outcomes of pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remain poor. Radiotherapy was previously a component of the curative treatment of PDAC. Advances in imaging and computer sciences have enabled the prescription of higher dosage of radiation focused on tumours with minimal toxicity to normal tissue. However, the role of radiotherapy has not been established in the curative treatment of localized PDAC because of the conflicting results from large prospective trials....

Monitoring of Triple Negative Breast Cancer After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy
Clin Breast Cancer. 2023 Aug 5:S1526-8209(23)00208-2. doi: 10.1016/j.clbc.2023.08.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTriple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive disease with a poor prognosis that disproportionately affects young women and African Americans, and represents a major unmet need in the field. TNBCs display a more aggressive growth pattern with an increased risk of advanced disease and high recurrence risk in patients with early stage TNBC. The addition of immunotherapy to chemotherapy for the treatment of patients with early stage TNBC in the (neo) adjuvant setting per the pivotal KEYNOTE 522 signific...

Does A Single Osteotomy Technique for Frozen Autograft (Pedicled Freezing) in Patients With Malignant Bone Tumors of the Long Bones Achieve Union and Local Tumor Control?
CONCLUSION: This treatment was reasonably successful in patients with sarcomas of the femur, tibia, and humerus who could undergo an intercalary resection, and this treatment did not involve the epiphysis and upper metaphysis. It avoids a second osteotomy site as in prior reports of freezing techniques, and union was achieved in all but one patient. There were few complications or local recurrences, and the patients' function was shown to be good. This technique cannot be used in all long-bone sarcomas, but we believe this is a reasonable alternative treatment for patients who show a good response to neoadjuvant chemothera...

Pattern and time point of relapse in locally advanced esophagogastric adenocarcinoma after multimodal treatment: implications for a useful structured follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of relapse differs significantly between high- and low-risk patients. Only a part of relapses is associated with clinical symptoms. An individualized follow-up strategy is recommended for high- and low-risk patients considering the individual risk of relapse.PMID:37589924 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05254-4

Kinase Inhibitor Pulldown Assay Identifies a Chemotherapy Response Signature in Triple-negative Breast Cancer Based on Purine-binding Proteins
Cancer Res Commun. 2023 Aug 15;3(8):1551-1563. doi: 10.1158/2767-9764.CRC-22-0501. eCollection 2023 Aug.ABSTRACTTriple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) constitutes 10%-15% of all breast tumors. The current standard of care is multiagent chemotherapy, which is effective in only a subset of patients. The original objective of this study was to deploy a mass spectrometry (MS)-based kinase inhibitor pulldown assay (KIPA) to identify kinases elevated in non-pCR (pathologic complete response) cases for therapeutic targeting. Frozen optimal cutting temperature compound-embedded core needle biopsies were obtained from 43 patients wit...

Neoadjuvant use of oncolytic herpes virus G47 Δ prevents local recurrence after insufficient resection in tongue cancer models
Mol Ther Oncolytics. 2023 Jul 19;30:72-85. doi: 10.1016/j.omto.2023.07.002. eCollection 2023 Sep 21.ABSTRACTA complete resection of tongue cancer is often difficult. We investigate the usefulness of administering G47Δ (teserpaturev), a triple-mutated oncolytic herpes simplex virus type 1, prior to resection. G47Δ exhibits good cytopathic effects and replication capabilities in all head and neck cancer cell lines tested. In an orthotopic SCCVII tongue cancer model of C3H/He mice, an intratumoral inoculation with G47Δ significantly prolongs the survival. Further, mice with orthotopic tongue cancer received neoadjuvant G47...

Neoadjuvant Chemoimmunotherapy Increases Tumor Immune Lymphocytes Infiltration in Resectable Non-small Cell Lung Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: The infiltration of immune cells before NCIT was correlated with pathologic complete response, which enhanced the TILs as a promising predictor for selecting patients who were more likely to benefit from NCIT.PMID:37587362 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14123-w

Characteristics Predicting Short-Term and Long-Term Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients with Esophageal Cancer After Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy and Esophagectomy
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer in favorable condition at baseline decline more in terms of various HRQOL outcomes.PMID:37587357 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14028-8

Real-life benchmarking bladder cancer care: A population-based study
CONCLUSIONS: Performance through most bladder cancer quality-of-care indicators fall short of benchmarks proposed by expert opinion. Different methodologies, such as a paredmean approach of top performers, may provide more realistic benchmarking.PMID:37581551 | DOI:10.5489/cuaj.8231

Satisfaction and Well-Being After Contralateral Prophylactic Mastectomy Among BRCA Mutation Carriers and Noncarriers: A Longitudinal Analysis of BREAST-Q Domains
CONCLUSIONS: Satisfaction and well-being were similar between BRCA carriers and noncarriers treated with CPM. Relative to noncarriers, BRCA carriers experienced a greater decline in satisfaction with breasts and psychological well-being at 6 months after CPM.PMID:37581851 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14086-y

Neutrophil membrane-based nanotherapeutics: Propitious paradigm shift in the management of cancer
Life Sci. 2023 Aug 13:122021. doi: 10.1016/j.lfs.2023.122021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCancer is the leading cause of death across the globe, with 19.3 million new cancer cases and 10 million deaths in the year 2020. Conventional treatment modalities have numerous pitfalls, such as off-site cytotoxicity and poor bioavailability. Nanocarriers (NCs) have been explored to deliver various therapeutic moieties such as chemotherapeutic agents and photothermal agents, etc. However, several limitations, such as rapid clearance by the reticuloendothelial system, poor extravasation into the tumor microenvironment, and low syste...
