Core Temperature in Service Members With and Without Traumatic Amputations During a Prolonged Endurance Event.
CONCLUSION: Until conclusive evidence is accumulated, it is prudent for military leaders, trainers, and military service members to closely monitor this population during physical activity to prevent heat injuries. PMID: 27849463 [PubMed - in process]

Effects of weight training time on bone mineral density of patients with secondary osteoporosis after hemiplegia.
In conclusion, in order to stimulate BMD and reverse osteoporosis in patients with secondary osteoporosis after hemiplegia, daily weight training for minimum 60 and 90 min was needed for males and females, respectively. PMID: 28450926 [PubMed - in process]

Association of Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT) Measured on Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) with Incident Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) Events in Older Men
Purposes/Aims: To estimate the associations of DXA-VAT and the proportion of central vs peripheral adipose tissue (measured as Android-Gynoid fat mass ratio on DXA) with incident ASCVD (myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease death, or fatal or non-fatal stroke) among older men.

The Relationship Between Bone Mineral Density and Cardiovascular Function in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: A Retrospective Cohort Study
In this study, we explored the relationship between BMD and cardiovascular health, and observed no association between BMD and LVEF. The primary results were in the opposite direction than the hypothesized direction, with the model beta coefficient for BMD indicating a negative relationship with LVEF; however, the size of the effect BMD had on LVEF was very small and not statistically significant. The secondary linear regression analyses provided consistent results with the primary linear regression, indicating that the primary results are sensitive to a variety of slightly modified conditions. It is possible that the nul...

Abdominal adipose tissue predicts major cardiovascular events in systemic necrotising vasculitides.
CONCLUSIONS: Abdominal visceral adipose tissue is a reliable surrogate marker of CV risk and predicts incident MCVEs in SNV patients. Abdominal adipose tissue should be probably evaluated routinely in these patients to assess CV risk. PMID: 31162033 [PubMed - in process]

Bone mineral density and risk of cardiovascular disease in men and women: the HUNT study
AbstractThe association between bone mineral density (BMD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is not fully understood. We evaluated BMD as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and specifically atrial fibrillation (AF), acute myocardial infarction (AMI), ischemic (IS) and hemorrhagic stroke (HS) and heart failure (HF) in men and women. This prospective population cohort utilized data on 22 857 adults from the second and third surveys of the HUNT Study in Norway free from CVD at baseline. BMD was measured using single and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry in the non-dominant distal forearm and T-score was calculated. Hazard...

Rationale and design of the Brazilian Diabetes Study: a prospective cohort of type 2 diabetes
CONCLUSION: The BDS will be the first large population-based cohort dedicated to the identification of clinical phenotypes of T2D at higher risk of cardiovascular events. Data derived from this study will provide valuable information on risk estimation and prevention of cardiovascular and other diabetes-related events.PMID:35174749 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2022.2043658

Body Anthropometrics and Rectal Temperature Cooling Rates in Women With Hyperthermia
CONCLUSIONS: Body anthropometrics did not affect CWI Trec cooling rates in women with hyperthermia. Clinicians need not worry about anthropometric characteristics slowing the treatment of severe hyperthermia in women using CWI.PMID:35230443 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-225-20
