Prison health priorities in Burkina Faso: a cross-sectional study in the two largest detention environments in Burkina Faso
This study highlighted higher frequencies of digestive, skin and respiratory complaints and diseases in the two largest detention centers in Burkina Faso. These diseases are variously related to age, penal status and length of incarceration. In addition, underweight and thiamin vitamin deficiency responsible for beriberi are more frequent in adult prisoners, those not attending school, convicted prisoners and those with a length of stay in detention of more than nine months. Exploring the Potential Role of Moonlighting Function of the Surface-Associated Proteins From Mycobacterium bovis BCG Moreau and Pasteur by Comparative Proteomic
In this study, the proteomic profile of the surface-associated proteins from M. bovis BCG Moreau was compared to the BCG Pasteur reference strain. The methodology used was 2DE gel electrophoresis combined with mass spectrometry techniques (MALDI-TOF/TOF), leading to the identification of 115 proteins. Of these, 24 proteins showed differential expression between the two BCG strains. Methylobacterium extorquens RSH Enzyme Synthesizes (p)ppGpp and pppApp in vitro and in vivo, and Leads to Discovery of pppApp Synthesis in Escherichia coli
This study of the RSHMex enzyme activity is the first direct biochemical demonstration that an RSH enzyme is capable of synthesizing a nucleotide derivative other than (p)ppGpp, i.e., pppApp. This is shown in vitro with the RSHMex1-352 protein (Figures 3, 4), as well as in vivo with E. coli cells induced to express full-length RSHMex and with wild type M. extorquens AM1 cells (Figure 6). The Human Upper Respiratory Tract Epithelium Is Susceptible to Flaviviruses
In this study, we exposed apically well-differentiated human NECs cultured at the ALI to the related flaviviruses ZIKV, JEV, WNV, and Usutu virus (USUV). We selected these viruses due to the recent increasing evidences of potential threat to humans (Cadar et al., 2017; Simonin et al., 2018). We show that NECs are particularly susceptible to JEV and WNV infection and to other flaviviruses included in this study.
