Cost-effectiveness Analysis of Apixaban against Warfarin for Stroke Prevention in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation in Japan.
CONCLUSION: Although most participants in the Apixaban for Reduction in Stroke and Other Thromboembolic Events in Atrial Fibrillation (ARISTOTLE) trial used for the efficacy data of apixaban in the model were non-Japanese patients, the impact of the limitations on our results was considered small, and our results were deemed robust because of the additional effect in Japanese patients compared with that in the global population according to the subanalysis of Japanese patients in the trial. A noninferiority confirmatory trial of prasugrel versus clopidogrel in Japanese patients with non-cardioembolic stroke: rationale and study design for a randomized controlled trial - PRASTRO-I trial.
CONCLUSIONS: This article presents the study design and rationale for a trial investigating the noninferiority of prasugrel to clopidogrel sulfate with regards to the inhibitory effect on primary events in patients with non-cardioembolic stroke.

Associations between Pre-Admission Risk Scores and Two-Year Clinical Outcomes in Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation

Study of Pharmacodynamic and Pharmacokinetic Interaction of Bojungikki-Tang with Aspirin in Healthy Subjects and Ischemic Stroke Patients.

Haptic-based perception-empathy biofeedback system for balance rehabilitation in patients with chronic stroke: Concepts and initial feasibility study
Stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability, annually experienced by approximately 250,000 individuals in Japan and remains a major healthcare and economic issue [1]. In stroke patients, a complex interplay of sensory, motor, and cognitive impairments causes balance issues [2]. Therefore, most stroke patients show increased postural sway during quiet standing and asymmetric weight distribution [2 –4]. Regarding post-stroke balance disability, impaired balance reportedly predicts falls in elderly patients post stroke [5].

Anticoagulants, Reperfusion Therapy, and Outcomes in Ischemic Stroke Patients With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation - A Single-Center, 6-Year Experience of 546 Consecutive Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Inappropriate anticoagulant use for stroke patients with NVAF did not decrease over time. An increase in reperfusion therapy was a strong factor in improved functional outcomes and mortality.

Prediction of life-space mobility in patients with stroke 2 months after discharge from rehabilitation: a retrospective cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: The predictive formula provides an objective measure of life-space mobility for stroke patients after discharge. The clinical application of this formula could help health care professionals working in stroke rehabilitation to prepare patients for discharge and to set concrete goals for in-hospital rehabilitation to improve life-space mobility after discharge. Prognostic evaluation of branch atheromatous disease in the pons using carotid artery ultrasonography
In the 2017 fiscal year, stroke was the 3rd leading cause of death in Japan, after malignant neoplasms and heart diseases, according to a survey by the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare of Japan.1 The most common type of stroke is ischemic stroke, and a large-scale epidemiologic survey on ischemic stroke in Japan, conducted from 1999 to 2000, found that, within this category, lacunar infarcts were the most common (36%), followed by atherothrombotic infarcts (31%), cardioembolic infarcts (20%), and undifferentiated types of ischemic stroke (6%).
