Changes of feeding patterns in Chinese city children under 2  years from 1985 to 2015: results from a series of national cross-sectional surveys.
CONCLUSIONS: There is an obvious trend on feeding pattern of Chinese children. From 1985 to 2005, the breastfeeding rate decreased, the duration time of breastfeeding was shortened and the age at introduction of complementary food was advanced. From 2005 to 2015, the breastfeeding rate increased, the duration time of breastfeeding was prolonged, and the age at introduction of complementary food was postponed. Autoimmune Disease in Women: Endocrine Transition and Risk Across the Lifespan
Conclusion Autoimmune disease states show strong associations with endocrinological changes in human and animal studies. There is clear evidence for the role of sex steroids in the immune disturbances that result in autoimmune diseases (Figure 2). The majority of women who pass through the different endocrinological transition states do not succumb to autoimmune diseases. FIGURE 2 Figure 2. Factors that contribute to increased incidence and prevalence of autoimmunity in women. In women (46XX) with genetic susceptibility to autoimmune states, external environmental stimuli affect modifying factors as well as endo...

Effects of relaxation therapy on maternal psychological status and infant growth following late preterm and early-term delivery: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: The relaxation meditation tape is a simple, effective practical tool that could easily be used in clinical settings to support breastfeeding mothers after LP and ET delivery. The findings need confirmation in larger groups and in other populations.PMID:36811573 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2022.12.002

Expressed breast milk feeding practices in Hong Kong Chinese women: A descriptive study.
CONCLUSION: A high proportion of Hong Kong Chinese mothers of healthy, full-term infants pump and feed expressed breast milk at some point during the first 6 months postpartum. Participants purchase or obtain breast pumps before giving birth, often in anticipation of breastfeeding difficulties and returning to work. PMID: 32898721 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling of human lactational transfer of methylmercury in China.
In this study, human physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models of methylmercury were established for breastfeeding mothers and suckling infants based on the existing model prototypes of previous studies. Relevant parameters of the models were modified, and the validation was conducted based on measured data in North China. The models could effectively describe the human lactational transfer of methylmercury, including the time-dependent methylmercury levels in different tissues and organs of the breastfeeding mothers and suckling infants. The results indicated that 77.2% and 14.9% of methylmercury were excreted v...

Induction of labour for improving birth outcomes for women at or beyond term.
CONCLUSIONS: A policy of labour induction at or beyond term compared with expectant management is associated with fewer perinatal deaths and fewer caesarean sections; but more operative vaginal births. NICU admissions were lower and fewer babies had low Apgar scores with induction. No important differences were seen for most of the other maternal and infant outcomes. Most of the important outcomes assessed using GRADE had a rating of moderate or low-quality evidence - with downgrading decisions generally due to study limitations such as lack of blinding (a condition inherent in comparisons between a policy of acting and of ...

Health outcomes in offspring of mother with breast implants: A protocol of systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusion: This systematic review and meta-analysis will infer a conclusion on the association between breast implant in mother and health outcomes in offspring, and the quality of existing evidence. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42019121221

Management of immune thrombocytopenia in women: current standards and special considerations.
Authors: Rodeghiero F, Marranconi E Abstract Introduction: Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an acquired autoimmune disorder, with an incidence rate of 20-40/million adults/year and an estimated prevalence in women of childbearing age of 24.5/million.Areas covered: Authors discuss management of ITP in pregnancy, treatment-related toxicity, delivery, neonatal thrombocytopenia and breastfeeding, and other women's specific issues. Search of papers published between January 1990 and December 2019 was done on PubMed using combinations of the keywords below. Distinction between ITP and other thrombocytopenias in pregnancy...

COVID-19 and newborn health: systematic review.
Conclusions: Given the paucity of studies at this time, vertical transmission cannot be confirmed or denied. Current literature does not support abstaining from breastfeeding nor separating mothers and newborns. Further evidence and data collection networks, particularly in the Americas, are needed for establishing definitive guidelines and recommendations. PMID: 32454807 [PubMed]

Risk factors for recurrent respiratory tract infection in preschool-aged children.
CONCLUSIONS: We have identified five potential risk factors for the risk of recurrent respiratory tract infection from 7222 preschool-aged Chinese children. Notably, asthma plays a leading role, and allergy, initial use of antibiotics, and breastfeeding might exert a graded, dose-dependent effect on recurrent respiratory tract infection susceptibility. IMPACT: This is the first report of examining the joint contribution of multiple potential risk factors to recurrent respiratory tract infection among Chinese preschool-aged children. We have identified five potential risk factors for the risk of recurrent respiratory t...

The effects of not having continuous companion support during labour on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic
CONCLUSION: Women without continuous companion support during labour had an increased chance of labour augmentation and babies with an Apgar score <7 at 1 min, and a reduced immediate breastfeeding rate when compared with those with continuous companion support.PMID:35240431 | PMC:PMC8860747 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2022.103293
