Association between drinking and all-cause mortality in patients with ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: The drinking years and drinking frequency before stroke and drinking status during the follow-up period are related to the all-cause mortality in patients with ischemic stroke.Investigations of the more specific variables of drinking behaviors during the follow-up period are needed to further clarify the association between drinking and death after ischemic stroke. Urban-rural differences in risk factors for ischemic stroke in northern China
This study aims to investigate urban-rural differences in characteristics and risk factors of ischemic stroke in northern China. The present cross-sectional study was based on the High-risk Population Screening and Intervention Project for Stroke. The cluster sampling method was used to select urban and rural screening sites in northern China. By collecting information and screening the data, patients with ischemic stroke were obtained and a control group with similar gender, age, and regional distribution was selected among the nonischemic stroke patients. Then, the demographic and risk factors of patients with ischemic ...

Effect of gene –gene and gene–environment interaction on the risk of first‐ever stroke and poststroke death
ConclusionsOur findings identified two novel genetic interactions ofVKORC1 andChr.9p21.3 and ofVEGFA andKDR for risk of stroke and subtypes as well as future stroke prognosis.

The association analysis between CYP24A1 genetic polymorphisms and the risk of ischemic stroke in Chinese Han population
ConclusionOur study gave the evidences thatCYP24A1 genetic polymorphisms were significantly associated with ischemic stroke patients, which would provide useful information of assessment or possible diagnostic markers for ischemic stroke.

Incidence of Stroke and Mortality in Chinese Patients with Sleep-Breathing Disorders: A Clinical Population-Based (CPB) Study.
CONCLUSIONS Age, sex, and the other existing disease(s) of patients with sleep-breathing disorders may be associated with stroke event(s). Also, stroke event(s) and comorbidities may be associated with mortality in this Chinese population. PMID: 31884509 [PubMed - in process]

Longitudinal Average Glucose Levels and Variance and Risk of Stroke: A Chinese Cohort Study.
Conclusions: Our results suggest that higher average glucose levels (126-139.9 mg/dl) and variance may be risk factors for stroke, even among people without diabetes diagnosis. PMID: 32373352 [PubMed]

Years of life lost from ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke related to ambient nitrogen dioxide exposure: A multicity study in China.
Abstract Few multicity studies have been conducted in developing countries to distinguish the acute effects of ambient nitrogen dioxide (NO2) on the years of life lost (YLL) from different subtypes of stroke. We aimed to differentiate the associations between NO2 exposure and YLL from major pathological types of stroke in China, and estimate the relevant economic loss. A time-series study was conducted to explore the associations between short-term NO2 exposure and YLL from ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke from 2013 to 2017 in 48 Chinese cities. Daily NO2 data and stroke mortality counts for each city were obtain...

Prestroke statin use enhances collateralization in acute ischemic stroke patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that prestroke statin use was associated with good leptomeningeal collaterals and clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients presenting with occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. However, clinical studies should be conducted to verify this claim. PMID: 32925118 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Plasma choline and betaine and risks of cardiovascular events and recurrent stroke after ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Plasma choline pathway metabolites, including choline and betaine, were associated with decreased risks of cardiovascular events and recurrent stroke and provided incremental value in risk discrimination and stratification in patients with ischemic stroke. This nested case-control study was based on the China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke, which is registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT01840072.PMID:34159355 | DOI:10.1093/ajcn/nqab199
