Sex differences in outcomes after spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage among patients with low total cholesterol levels
CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that there were no sex differences in clinical outcomes of patients with ICH and low TC levels, which suggests that the effect of low cholesterol as a risk factor for cerebral hemorrhage is the same on patients of different sexs. The possible mechanisms need larger, prospective, multicenter studies to further research.PMID:33992602 | DOI:10.1016/j.amjms.2021.05.007

Effectiveness of a primary care-based integrated mobile health intervention for stroke management in rural China (SINEMA): A cluster-randomized controlled trial
This study aims to determine whether a primary care-based integrated mobile health intervention (SINEMA intervention) could improve stroke management in rural China. Methods and findingsBased on extensive barrier analyses, contextual research, and feasibility studies, we conducted a community-based, two-arm cluster-randomized controlled trial with blinded outcome assessment in Hebei Province, rural Northern China including 1,299 stroke patients (mean age: 65.7 [SD:8.2], 42.6% females, 71.2% received education below primary school) recruited from 50 villages between June 23 and July 21, 2017. Villages were randomly assigned...

Does Low Subjective Social Status Predict Cognitive Decline in Chinese Older Adults? A 4-Year Longitudinal Study From Hong Kong.
CONCLUSION: Cognitive decline is influenced by self-perceived rank in proximal reference groups rather than socioeconomic comparison with society at-large. SSS-Community is a useful, single-item supplementary instrument to improve prediction of cognitive decline in elderly Chinese. PMID: 33563520 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Risk Factors Influencing Seeking Emergency Medical Service in Urban and Rural China Among Participants With a Previous Transient Ischemic Attack
Conclusions: Rural residents with previous TIA in China had a higher percentage of not calling EMS. Multiple risk factors have been identified that call for targeted intervention strategies.

A prospective study of waist circumference trajectories and incident cardiovascular disease in China: the Kailuan Cohort Study
ConclusionsWC trajectory patterns were associated with altered risk of CVD among Chinese adults, even among people without BMI-defined obesity. When stratifying by age, the association was observed to be higher in younger adults.

Association between use of amiodarone for non-valvular atrial fibrillation and patient survival: from the prospective China Atrial Fibrillation Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study indicated that amiodarone use was not significantly associated with a lower risk of 1-year all-cause mortality compared with a non-AAD strategy in "real-world" patients with NVAF. PMID: 33273373 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clock ‐drawing test: Normative data of three quantitative scoring methods for Chinese‐speaking adults in Shijiazhuang City and clinical utility in patients with acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsOur study provides CDT normative data using three quantitative scoring methods for Chinese ‐speaking adults in Shijiazhuang City. Age and education level were the key factors that affected the CDT scores. CDT total scores and subscores provided good discriminant validity for patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Years of life lost from ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke related to ambient nitrogen dioxide exposure: A multicity study in China.
Abstract Few multicity studies have been conducted in developing countries to distinguish the acute effects of ambient nitrogen dioxide (NO2) on the years of life lost (YLL) from different subtypes of stroke. We aimed to differentiate the associations between NO2 exposure and YLL from major pathological types of stroke in China, and estimate the relevant economic loss. A time-series study was conducted to explore the associations between short-term NO2 exposure and YLL from ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke from 2013 to 2017 in 48 Chinese cities. Daily NO2 data and stroke mortality counts for each city were obtain...

Relationship between Urinary Alzheimer-Associated Neuronal Thread Protein and Apolipoprotein Epsilon 4 Allele in the Cognitively Normal Population.
Abstract We investigated the relationship between urinary Alzheimer-associated neuronal thread protein (AD7c-NTP) levels and apolipoprotein epsilon 4 (ApoE ɛ4) alleles, as well as other factors that cause cognitive decline, in the cognitively normal population. We recruited 329 cognitively normal right-handed Han Chinese subjects who completed ApoE gene testing and urinary AD7c-NTP testing. There was no significant difference in urinary AD7c-NTP levels between the normal control and subjective cognitive decline groups. Urinary AD7c-NTP levels were significantly higher in subjects with ApoE ɛ3/4 and 4/4 [0.6074 (...
