Alpha-Gal sensitization, mammalian meat consumption and allergic symptoms in adults from central Virginia at-risk for cardiovascular disease
Studying adults in central Virginia at-risk for cardiovascular disease we previously reported a high prevalence of α-Gal sensitization (26%) and, using high-sensitivity intravascular ultrasound imaging, an association between α-Gal IgE and coronary artery disease (CAD) severity. Here we sought to characterize diet and allergic symptoms in prospectively recruited at-risk subjects, hypothesizing that most sensit ized subjects lacked allergic symptoms and routinely consumed mammalian meat.

The association of allergic asthma and carotid intima-media thickness in adolescence: data of the prospective early vascular ageing (EVA)-Tyrol cohort study
CONCLUSION: Allergic asthma in the youth is associated with an increased carotid intima-media thickness. Physicians should therefore be aware of allergic asthma as a potential cardiovascular risk factor in children and adolescents. Trial Registration Number The EVA-Tyrol Study has been retrospectively registered at clinicaltrials.gov under NCT03929692 since April 29, 2019.PMID:35042472 | DOI:10.1186/s12872-021-02452-1

Diagnostic accuracy of focused deep venous, lung, cardiac, and multiorgan ultrasound in suspected pulmonary embolism: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions: Several ultrasound signs exhibit a high specificity for pulmonary embolism and may improve the selection of patients for radiation imaging.

Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura Without Schistocytes: Beware of Misdiagnosis
A 43-year-old woman was admitted for acute unusual headache, vertigo, and left upper limb weakness. She had been complaining of asthenia for the past few weeks. Her medical history included uterine cervix cancer treated with conisation and 2 pregnancies without serious complications. No allergy or recent drug introduction was noted. After ruling out current pregnancy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was immediately performed and showed recent ischemic strokes in multiple territories. Doppler ultrasound imaging showed no carotid or vertebral arteries lesion. Electrocardiogram showed no ST elevation or atrial fibrillation, ...

Role of diffusion weighted MRI imaging in characterization of hepatic focal lesions in cirrhotic patients in comparison to dynamic cross sectional imaging
AbstractAim of workThe aim of the study is to show the feasibility of diffusion weighted (DWI) MRI with calculation of the apparent diffusion coefficient in characterization of hepatic focal lesions as well as differentiating benign from malignant lesions in cirrhotic patients.Patients and MethodsThe study included 35 patients (25 males and 10 females) by cross sectional study and convenient sampling at the Demerdash hospital, inclusion criteria: patients diagnosed by hepatic focal lesions on top of post-viral induced cirrhosis, detected by ultrasound, triphasic CT or dynamic MRI imaging. All patients to be included in the...

Ultrasound-guided anterior iliopsoas muscle space block versus posterior lumbar plexus block in hip surgery in the elderly: A randomised controlled trial
CONCLUSION The anterior iliopsoas muscle space block had the same effect as the posterior lumbar plexus block on peri-operative analgesia for hip surgery, but with a longer onset time. Therefore, anterior iliopsoas muscle space block can be recommended as a routine technique for hip and lower limb procedures. TRIAL REGISTRATION http://www.chictr.org.cn identifier: ChiCTR1900021214.

Respiratory Distress Syndrome Associated with Erythrodermic Psoriasis
We report the case of a 69-year-old man with a long history of psoriasis who developed acute respiratory distress during a disease flare-up. There was no relevant past history (except for mild emphysema), known allergy, or recent treatment. Chest X-ray revealed new bilateral infiltrates, confirmed at chest computed tomography scan. Repeated cultures on aspirate of the bronchoalveolar lavage remained negative for viruses, bacteria, and parasites. Cardiac ultrasound was normal and high-dose corticosteroid therapy was initiated. Within a few days his clinical and radiological status improved significantly.Case Rep Dermatol 2021;13:83 –88

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound in evaluation of adrenal lesions with CT/MRI correlation.
Abstract Most of the adrenal masses are incidentally detected. Multiphasic CT forms the mainstay for diagnosis and characterization of adrenal masses. MRI can further be used if the masses are indeterminate on CT scan. But as these investigations are expensive with risk of radiation exposure, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is currently under evaluation to assess its utility to act as a screening modality to differentiate benign vs malignant adrenal masses This investigative modality is relatively safe and can be used in patients having renal dysfunction or allergy to CT contrast. We, hereby, present a pictori...

Computed tomography venography versus intravascular ultrasound in the diagnosis of iliofemoral vein stenosis.
Conclusions: CTV has limited diagnostic performance in identifying iliofemoral vein stenosis. Patients with normal CTV findings should proceed with IVUS imaging if the clinical features are supportive of iliofemoral vein stenosis. PMID: 33153399 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
