Impact of diet modification on body mass and kidney function in patients with diabetic nephropathy: a pilot study
CONCLUSIONS: The study shows that obesity is a common comorbid disease in patients with DN and that dietary intervention is associated with a significant reduction in body mass and stabilization of eGFR in these patients.PMID:37717272 | DOI:10.18388/abp.2020_6889

Child characteristic correlates of food rejection in preschool children: A narrative review
Appetite. 2023 Sep 15:107044. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2023.107044. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDietary habits formed in early childhood are key for establishing a healthy diet later in life. Picky eating and food neophobia - the two main forms of food rejection in young children - form an important barricade to establishing such healthy habits. Understanding these types of food rejection is thus essential for promoting healthy eating behaviour in both children and adults. To this end, the present narrative review aims to provide an overview of food rejection research in preschool-aged children, focusing on recent advances i...

Chlorogenic acid enhances PPAR γ-mediated lipogenesis through preventing Lipin 1 nuclear translocation in Staphylococcus aureus-exposed bovine mammary epithelial cells
In this study, the internalization of S. aureus reduced intracellular lipid droplet formation, decreased the levels of intracellular triacylglycerol, total cholesterol and 7 types of fatty acid and downregulated the expression of lipogenic genes FAS, ACC, and DGAT1 in bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMECs). In addition, we found that S. aureus intracellular infection attenuated mTORC1 activation resulting in Lipin 1 nuclear localization. Remarkablely, S. aureus infection-mediated repression of lipid synthesis related to the mTORC1 signaling and Lipin 1 nuclear localization can be alleviated by CGA. Thus, our findings prov...

Pancreastatin inhibitor PSTi8 ameliorates insulin resistance by decreasing fat accumulation and oxidative stress in high-fat diet-fed mice
Amino Acids. 2023 Sep 16. doi: 10.1007/s00726-023-03332-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAbnormal fat accumulation, enhanced free fatty acids (FFA) release, and their metabolites cause insulin resistance (IR) in major glucose-lipid metabolic organs such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. However, excessive lipolysis and FFA release from adipose tissue elevate plasma FFA levels leading to oxidative stress and skeletal muscle IR. Indeed, in obese individuals, there is enhanced pro-inflammatory secretion from adipose tissue influencing insulin signaling in skeletal muscles. Here, we investigated the effect of PSTi8 on FFA...

Higher habitual dietary intakes of flavanols and anthocyanins differentially associate with lower incidence of ischemic stroke subtypes-A follow-up analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Higher habitual intakes of flavanols and anthocyanins are differentially associated with lower risk of ischemic stroke from atherosclerosis and/or cardioembolism, but not with other subtypes.PMID:37716608 | DOI:10.1016/j.tjnut.2023.09.011

Zhizi-Chuanxiong herb pair alleviates atherosclerosis progression in ApoE < sup > -/- < /sup > mice by promoting the methylation of FGFR3 to inhibit MAPK/ERK-mediated apoptosis
CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that ZCHP can effectively attenuate AS progression by inhibiting MAPK/ERK signaling-mediated apoptosis via FGFR3 hypermethylation in the promoter region.PMID:37716492 | DOI:10.1016/j.jep.2023.117188

Aflatoxin B1 triggers apoptosis in rabbit hepatocytes via mediating oxidative stress and switching on the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway
Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2023 Sep 14;264:115478. doi: 10.1016/j.ecoenv.2023.115478. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is considered the most toxic carcinogenic compound, and exposure to AFB1 is highly associated with hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different doses of AFB1 on growth performance and the liver of rabbits, as well as explore its underlying mechanisms. A total of eighty 30-day-old meat rabbits were randomly divided into four treatments. The control group was fed a pollution-free diet, while the AFL, AFM, and AFH groups were fed contaminated diets ...
