Commentary on "The association between physical activity and renal cancer: Systematic review and meta-analysis." Behrens G, Leitzmann MF, Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Regensburg University Medical Center, Regensburg, Germany.: Br J Cancer 2013; 108(4):798-811. Epub 2013 Feb 14. doi: 10.1038/bjc.2013.37.
CONCLUSION: Our comprehensive meta-analysis provides strong support for an inverse relation of physical activity to renal cancer risk. Future high-quality studies are required to discern which specific types, intensities, frequencies, and durations of physical activity are needed for renal cancer risk reduction. Metabolic effects of androgen deprivation therapy.
Authors: Choi SM, Kam SC Abstract The therapeutic effects and side effects of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), which is a main treatment method for metastatic prostate cancer, are well known, but the metabolic effects have only recently been studied. This review describes the effects of ADT on body habitus, insulin resistance, lipid profiles, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The review was done by using KoreaMed and PubMed to search the medical literature related to prostate cancer, ADT, body habitus, lipid profile, diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and ca...

Obesity and kidney stone disease: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: Obesity related nephrolithiasis seems to necessitate weight loss as primary treatment, but the recognition of the associated complications is necessary to prevent induction of new and equally severe medical problems. The optimal approach to obesity control that minimizes stone risk needs to be determined in order to manage obesity-induced renal stones disease. PMID: 29856171 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Testosterone therapy in diabetes and pre ‐diabetes
Conclusion: Weight loss and physical activities are able to improve bothmetabolic profile and T levels. The combined approach of TRT and life-style modificationscould be suggested in symptomatic hypogonadal men to better motivate patients to perform physical activity which can eventually result in weight loss as well as metabolic profile and sexual function improvement. Whether or not these approaches can prevent the development of T2DM from pre-clinical conditions requires more studies. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved

Effects of continuous long‐term testosterone therapy (TTh) on anthropometric, endocrine and metabolic parameters for up to 10 years in 115 hypogonadal elderly men: real‐life experience from an observational registry study
Summary Subnormal levels of testosterone are associated with significant negative health consequences, with higher risks of all‐cause and cardiovascular mortality. The numbers of studies reporting on the benefits of normalisation of testosterone is increasing but longer‐term data on (elderly) men receiving testosterone treatment are almost nonexistent. In this single‐centre, cumulative, prospective, registry study, 115 hypogonadal men (mean age 59.05 years) received injections with testosterone undecanoate in 12‐week intervals for up to 10 years. Waist circumference, body weight and mean BMI dropped progressively...

Race and the Insulin Resistance Syndrome
Summary: Type 2 diabetes remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality. The metabolic syndrome affects 25% of the adult US population based on the Third Report of the Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults from the National Cholesterol Education Program. Knowledge on the impact of obesity on metabolic health parameters has increased greatly over the past decade. This review discusses the limitations of the National Cholesterol Education Program metabolic syndrome definition and the racial disparities in the clinical presentation of the insulin resistance syndrome. We...

Metabolic effects of testosterone replacement therapy on hypogonadal men with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
In conclusion, we found that TRT can improve glycemic control and decrease triglyceride levels of hypogonadal men with T2DM. Considering the limited number of participants and the confounding factors in our systematic review; additional large, well-designed RCTs are needed to address the metabolic effects of TRT and its long-term influence on hypogonadal men with T2DM. Association between metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes mellitus and oncological outcomes of bladder cancer: A systematic review
Abstract Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of several metabolic abnormalities, its prevalence is increasing worldwide. To summarize the most recent evidence regarding the relationship between metabolic syndrome, its components and the oncological outcomes in bladder cancer patients, a National Center for Biotechnology Information PubMed search for relevant articles either published or e‐published up to March 2014 was carried out by combining the following Patient population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome terms: metabolic syndrome, obesity, body mass index, hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, diabetes, hypertension, dysl...

Review of the pathophysiological aspects involved in urological disease associated with metabolic syndrome.
CONCLUSIONS: Strategies such as proper diet, regular exercise, insulin treatment, testosterone-replacement therapy, therapy with antioxidants and free-radical inhibitors and urological treatments classically used for lower urinary tract syndrome have shown promising results in this syndrome. Penile cancer: Ongoing search for molecular prognostic markers
Nature Reviews Urology 13, 184 (2016). doi:10.1038/nrurol.2016.49 Author: Clemens Thoma Two studies propose new possible prognostic markers for men with penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC). One found that increased expression of insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R) is associated with disease progression and decreased progression-free survival (PFS). The other identified decreased expression levels of three

The dose–response effect of insulin sensitivity on albuminuria in children according to diabetes type
Conclusions In cross-sectional analyses, there is a negative association between IS and UACR in youth with type 2 but not type 1 diabetes, and this association likely includes a threshold effect of IS on UACR.

Obesity and renal disease: not all fat is created equal and not all obesity is harmful to the kidneys
The prevalence of obesity is increasing worldwide and contributes to many health problems, including kidney disease. Unexpectedly, 10–30% of obese individuals are apparently not at increased risk of metabolic diseases, e.g. type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and risk of renal disease. Their phenotype is labeled ‘metabolically healthy obesity’. In the search for mechanisms explaining this unexpected condition, a favourable type of body fat distribution with low insulin resistance and with low subclinical inflammation has been identified. Furthermore, signalling pathways have been found that distinguis...
