Prediction Model for the Efficacy of Folic Acid Therapy on Hyperhomocysteinaemia based on genetic risk score methods.

Plasma alkylresorcinol metabolite, a biomarker of whole-grain wheat and rye intake, and risk of ischemic stroke: a case-control study.

SAH is a subversive type of stroke that has a mortality rate of almost 50% [1, 2]. Approximately 10% of patients die during the prehospital period, and survivors often suffer long-term neurological or cognitive impairments due to the original hemorrhage and rehemorrhage despite the development of novel treatment strategies [3 –5]. Therefore, clarifying the risk factors of SAH remains important. Except for the most common risk factors of SAH, including hypertension, smoking, and heavy alcohol intake, the relation between diet and SAH has been a recent concern [6].

Protective effect of homovanillyl alcohol on cardiovascular disease and total mortality: virgin olive oil, wine, and catechol-methylathion Cardiovascular disease risk
Conclusions: We report, for the first time to our knowledge, an independent association between high urinary HVAL concentrations and a lower risk of CVD and total mortality in elderly individuals. VOO and wine consumption and a high metabolic COMT capacity for methylation are key factors for high HVAL concentrations. The association that stems from our results reinforces the benefits of 2 key components of the Mediterranean diet (wine and VOO). This trial was registered at www.predimed.es as ISRCTN35739639.

Development of a self-assessment score for metabolic syndrome risk in non-obese Korean adults.

What Are Endoscopic Bariatric Therapies?
The high prevalence of overweight and obesity in the United States negatively affects the health of the population. Obesity increases the risk of various diseases, including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, coronary heart disease, sleep apnea, stroke, gatroesophageal reflux disease, gall bladder disease, certain types of malignancy, and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases.1,2 Reducing obesity in the United States has become a public health priority.1,2 Current approaches to therapeutic weight loss include dietary approaches, lifestyle intervention, pharmacology, and surgery.

Mediterranean diet score and left ventricular structure and function: the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Cardiovascular disease risk
Conclusions: A higher Mediterranean diet score is cross-sectionally associated with a higher LV mass, which is balanced by a higher LV volume as well as a higher ejection fraction and stroke volume. Participants in this healthy, multiethnic sample whose dietary patterns most closely conformed to a Mediterranean-type pattern had a modestly better LV structure and function than did participants with less–Mediterranean-like dietary patterns. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT00005487.
