Peripheral microvascular dysfunction is associated with plaque progression and adverse long ‐term outcomes in heart transplant patients
ConclusionsPeripheral endothelial dysfunction is associated with increased plaque progression and adverse long-term cardiovascular outcomes in transplant patients. PED assessment might be a useful clinical tool for risk stratification after heart transplantation.

Using Ultrasound and Inflammation to Improve Prediction of Ischemic Stroke: A Secondary Analysis of the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis
Conclusions: In a multiethnic cohort of patients without cerebrovascular disease at baseline, we found that CD, CS, and IL-6 helped predict the occurrence of primary ischemic stroke. Carotid Atherosclerosis Evolution when Targeting a Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Concentration < 70 mg/dL after an Ischemic Stroke of Atherosclerotic Origin.
Conclusions: In patients with ischemic stroke and atherosclerosis, an LDL-C target of <70 mg/dL (1.8 mmol/L) did not reduce the incidence of new carotid plaques but produced significantly greater regression of carotid atherosclerosis than an LDL-C target of 90 to 110 mg/dL. Pentosidine, advanced glycation end product, in acute ischaemic stroke patients with and without atrial rhythm disturbances.
CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: A higher serum level of pentosidine was observed in AIS patients without atrial fibrillation compared to the healthy volunteers. According to the results of the present study, no difference between these patients in the selected risk factors of atherosclerosis were observed. Further studies are needed to identify a reliable marker of AF that would bring added value to the standard diagnostic workup after acute ischaemic stroke. Carotid artery stenosis, an underestimated cause of stroke recurrence in patients with ischaemic monocular visual loss.
CONCLUSIONS: Carotid stenosis ≥ 50% is present in patients with ocular ischaemia in approximately 20% of those with persistent visual loss and in 10% with transient visual loss.
