Timing of eczema onset and risk of food allergy at 3 years of age: a hospital-based prospective birth cohort study
Food allergy, an abnormal immunologic response to causal foods, most often begins early in life and has potential risks of severe reactions such as anaphylaxis [1,2]. The prevalence of food allergy has been increasing worldwide in recent decades, and the estimated prevalence was reported as 10% in infants and 5% in preschool children [3,4]. The burden of food allergy in young children is a serious health issue, substantially affecting the quality of life. Although interplay of genetic and environmental factors generally plays an important role in development of food allergy, environmental exposure is likely the primary cau...

Trends in contact allergy to fragrance mix I in consecutive Danish eczema patients over three decades; a cross-sectional study from 1986 to 2015.
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of contact allergy to FMI has been increasing within recent years. No effect of previous preventive initiatives could be demonstrated. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. PMID: 27861735 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Modern life makes children allergic. A cross-sectional study: associations of home environment and lifestyles with asthma and allergy among children in Tianjin region, China
ConclusionsThe results indicate that a “modern” home environment together with a modern lifestyle is associated with increased prevalences of asthma and allergies among children. Appropriate indoor environmental interventions and education of children’s caregivers are important in the management of childhood asthma and allergy.

Asteraceae species as potential environmental factors of allergy.
In this study, we tried to reveal the allergenic potential of several Asteraceae species. The Asteraceae-related allergy symptoms involve eczema, hay fever, asthma, or even anaphylaxis. Furthermore, the evidence of severe cross-reactivity with food and pollen allergens (PFS) in patients sensitive to Asteraceae allergens have been announced. Further identification and characterization of secondary metabolites and possible allergens in Asteraceae are necessary for the better understanding of Asteraceae-related immune response. The Asteraceae allergy screening panel (the SL mix and the Compositae mix of five plant species) is...

Contribution of recombinant Parvalbumin Gad c 1 in the diagnosis and prognosis of fish allergy.
CONCLUSION: The decrease of sIgE to rGad c 1 and the mean wheal diameter of SPT forhake and salmon can be used as markers of prognosis in the acquisition of tolerance in fish allergy. PMID: 31530508 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Greenlandic women ´s lifestyle and diet during pregnancy and child risk for asthma, eczema and allergy: an ACCEPT-substudy.
Greenlandic women´s lifestyle and diet during pregnancy and child risk for asthma, eczema and allergy: an ACCEPT-substudy. Int J Circumpolar Health. 2019 Dec;78(1):1682421 Authors: Haugaard Rasmussen IM, Bonefeld-Jørgensen EC, Long M Abstract Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are environmental chemicals bio-accumulating through the food chain. POPs can affect the foetal development of the immune, the neural and the reproductive system. POPs are endocrine disruptors and shown to interfere with child vaccination responses. Our hypothesis is that POPs interfere with the immune system increasing the r...

Eczema phenotypes and risk of allergic and respiratory conditions in school age children
ConclusionEczema phenotypes were differentially associated with risks of respiratory and allergic conditions in school-aged children. Children with early transient and persistent eczema might benefit from more intense follow-up for early identification and treatment of asthma and allergies.

Nickel Allergy of the Skin and Beyond.
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of nickel allergy represents an important socio-economical and health issue. The metal is the one of the most common sensitizing agents worldwide. The morbidity due to this metal represents the allergic contact dermatitis and it is constantly growing in many countries. There are also cases of systemic allergic contact dermatitis, where they could be easily misdiagnosed as adverse drug reactions, which lead to delay of the correct diagnosis and inappropriate treatment. Pediatric Allergic Diseases, Food Allergy, and Oral Tolerance.
Abstract Pediatric allergic disease is a significant health concern worldwide, and the prevalence of childhood eczema, asthma, allergic rhinitis, and food allergy continues to increase. Evidence to support specific interventions for the prevention of eczema, asthma, and allergic rhinitis is limited, and no consensus on prevention strategies has been reached. Randomized controlled trials investigating the prevention of food allergy via oral tolerance induction and the early introduction of allergenic foods have been successful in reducing peanut and egg allergy prevalence. Infant weaning guidelines in the United Sa...

Multiple environmental exposures in early-life and allergy-related outcomes in childhood.
DISCUSSION: This first comprehensive and systematic analysis of many environmental exposures suggests that prenatal exposure to traffic-related variables, PMabs and phthalates are associated with rhinitis and itchy rash. PMID: 32854059 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Allergy Prevention: An Overview of Current Evidence.
Authors: Royal C, Gray C Abstract Background: There has been a rapid rise in allergic disorders across the globe. This has increased research into the determinants of allergy development, to identify factors that may be manipulated to mitigate risk. An opportune window in immunological development appears to exist in early life whereby certain exposures may promote or prevent the development of an allergic disposition. Furthermore, factors that affect the composition and diversity of the microbiome in early life have been explored. In this review, we discuss current literature and recommendations relating to exposu...

The clinical and laboratory findings of infants with atopic dermatitis during diagnosis and follow-up
Conclusions. Food allergy is more common in the early-onset and moderate/severe atopic dermatitis. Accurate diagnosis of food allergy is necessary to increase the success of treatment and to prevent unnecessary diets.PMID:36637173 | DOI:10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.281
