Free Tissue Transfers for Head and Neck Reconstruction in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease on Dialysis: Analysis of Outcomes Using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database
Conclusion Despite greater preoperative risk factors, patients with renal failure on hemodialysis do not appear to have a higher rate of free flap failure following head and neck reconstruction. However, other complications can be minimized by optimizing patient's medical condition to succeed with this reconstructive effort. Sleep apnea and risk of vertigo: A nationwide population ‐based cohort study
ConclusionThis is the first nationwide population‐based cohort study to investigate the association between sleep apnea and vertigo. The findings strongly support that sleep apnea is an independent risk factor for vertigo. Based on the study results, physicians should be aware of potential vertigo occurrence following sleep apnea. Association of Long-Term Exposure to Transportation Noise and Traffic-Related Air Pollution with the Incidence of Diabetes: A Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusion: We found a positive association between residential transportation noise and diabetes, adding to the growing body of evidence that noise pollution exposure may be independently linked to metabolic health and should be considered when developing public health interventions. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1279 Received: 26 October 2016 Revised: 07 May 2017 Accepted: 09 May 2017 Published: 31 August 2017 Address correspondence to C. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Patients with Sickle Cell Disease: A Population-Based Longitudinal Analysis of Three Cohorts
ConclusionWe present evidence describing the prevalence of T2DM in patients with SCD both in a commercially-insured population and from an institution-based clinical cohort. These findings were similar to a general African American population with an increasing trend in T2DM over recent years. These trends support the routine screening for T2DM in patients with SCD, especially those of older age and with presence of comorbid hypertension and/or dyslipidemia.DisclosuresNo relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

IJERPH, Vol. 16, Pages 3044: Burden of Disease in Coastal Areas of South Korea: An Assessment Using Health Insurance Claim Data
Conclusion: In this study, the coastal areas of South Korea carry a higher burden than the national population. Additionally, chronic diseases compose the majority of the health burden in coastal areas. Despite the limitation of data, YLD was the best tool available for evaluating the health outcomes in specific areas, and has the advantage of simplicity and timely analysis.
