Facelift: Assessment of Total Platysma Muscle Transection to Prevent the Recurrence of Platysmal Bands
ConclusionThe authors ’ technique achieved satisfactory long-term results with minimal complications. However, due to the lengthy operating time and steep learning curve, it should be reserved for highly motivated patients.Level of Evidence IIThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Impact of Surgical Rejuvenation on Visual Processing and Character Attribution of Faces
CONCLUSIONS: We provide data illustrating both reflexive and subjective responses to facial rejuvenation. Observers reported a more favorable impression of the treated faces and evaluated them as being younger than their true age. A trend was detected for increased visual fixation of the central facial region following rejuvenation. Interpretation of these findings and indication for further research is provided.PMID:37731729 | PMC:PMC10508498 | DOI:10.1097/GOX.0000000000005038 (Source: Hand Surgery)

The deep cervical fascia neck lift
Ann Chir Plast Esthet. 2023 Sep 16:S0294-1260(23)00080-8. doi: 10.1016/j.anplas.2023.07.006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe main and more frequent problem in face lift is recurrence of neck bands. To improve face lift stability, a new aging analysis is proposed. The visible sign of face aging is skin excess. Superficial musculo aponeurotic system (SMAS) retraction is a much less visible sign. Nevertheless, botulinum toxin injections elongate muscles of the SMAS and rejuvenate the face. In the Face Recurve Concept, MRI studies prove the mimic muscles retraction that comes with aging. Face lift techniques include SMAS pli...

Response to Corona-Rodarte et  al.’s “Pressure alopecias: a review”
To the Editor: We read with interest the article by Corona-Rodarte et  al regarding pressure alopecias (PAs) secondary to sustained external pressure and cosmetic injections, which they referred to as type 1 PA and type 2 PA, respectively. We introduce 3 additional cosmetic procedures that have been associated with alopecia: thread lift (facial suspension suture), te mporal lifting with dermal fillers, and cervicofacial rhytidectomy (facelift). We also want to consolidate recommendations for counseling and management of alopecias secondary to cosmetic injections and procedures. (Source: Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology)

Sign of the Times
For the past 10 years, the increasing trend of noninvasive therapies over traditional Facial Plastic Surgery has impacted all of our practices not only because of the patients ’ desires for minimal downtime but also because of the increasing effectiveness of these therapies, which can complement and enhance our surgical results. For many of us in mature practices, we have seen the average age of patients seeking face-lift surgery becoming older as many people are underg oing volume enhancement, energy-based skin treatments, and sophisticated skin care at younger ages for “prejuvenation” prior to considering surgery. ...

Complications Following Facelift and Neck Lift: Implementation and Assessment of Large Language Model and Artificial Intelligence (ChatGPT) Performance Across 16 Simulated Patient Presentations
ConclusionsChatGPT overestimated the urgency of indicated patient dispositions in 44% of cases, concerning for potential unnecessary increase in healthcare resource utilization. Imperfect performance, and the tool ’s tendency for overinclusion in its responses, risk increasing patient anxiety and straining physician-patient relationships. While artificial intelligence has great potential in triaging postoperative patient concerns, and improving efficiency and resource utilization, ChatGPT’s performance, i n its current form, demonstrates a need for further refinement before its safe and effective implementation in faci...

Assessment of deep plane facelift in facial feminization surgery: a prospective pilot study
Facial feminization surgery (FFS) is often the first procedure requested by patients wishing to undergo gender-affirming surgery. The aim of this study is to evaluate the applicability and effectiveness of Deep Plane Facelift in FFS. The authors conducted a prospective study that included patients who requested a deep plane facelift as a standalone procedure to achieve a more feminine facial appearance as the only procedure of the facial feminization surgery (FFS).These patients underwent deep plane face lifts to achieve a more feminine oval face shape and increased tissue projection of the zygomatic-malar region. Secondary alopecia induced by aesthetic procedures: An unrecognized potential complication
Australas J Dermatol. 2023 Jun 2. doi: 10.1111/ajd.14090. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSurgical facelifts and noninvasive techniques such as mesotherapy, hyaluronic fillers and botulinum toxin, among other procedures are widely used nowadays to reverse skin ageing and achieve rejuvenation effects. Secondary alopecia due to cosmetic procedures is a rare side effect and is poorly described in the literature. The mechanisms in which hair loss develops after an aesthetical procedure or surgical technique are not well known. The development of secondary scarring alopecia or non-scarring alopecia depends upon the interaction be...
