Enhancing BPPV Treatment Outcomes: A Comparative Study of the Epley Maneuver with and without the Dizzy-Fix Training Device
Conclusion: Incorporating the Dizzy-Fix Training Device with the Epley Maneuver significantly improves the management of BPPV, evidenced by faster symptom resolution, enhanced patient satisfaction, and reduced symptom recurrence. These findings underscore the value of integrating real-time visual feedback technologies in vestibular rehabilitation, promising better patient outcomes, and advancing the quality of care in BPPV treatment. Strategies for knee stabilising and pivot-shift avoidance in a step-down and cross-over task observed sub-acutely after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction
Individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction showed a knee-stabilising and pivot-shift avoidance strategy for both legs early in rehabilitation. These results may reflect an altered motor representation and motivate considerations early in rehabilitation. (Source: Clinical Biomechanics)

Brazilian Women in Paralympic Sports: Uncovering Historical Milestones in the Summer Paralympic Games
Adapt Phys Activ Q. 2024 Apr 22:1-14. doi: 10.1123/apaq.2023-0139. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe journey of Brazilian female Paralympians transcends mere statistical increases in women's participation. Behind the modest athlete growth lies the reality of women who are doubly marginalized by the intersection of gender and disability in an arena tailored for able-bodied men. Our study aimed to catalyze critical discourses surrounding the historical trajectory of Paralympic women's sports. Through a comprehensive documentary analysis based on the Brazilian Paralympic Committee's official documents from 1976 to 2021, we so...

How robot-assisted gait training affects gait ability, balance and kinematic parameters after stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Taken together, the review synthesis showed that RAGT might have a potential role in the recovery of walking dysfunction after stroke. However, its superiority over conventional rehabilitation requires further research. Additionally, it may provide unexpected benefits that the effects of RAGT with different types or treatment protocols were further compared.PMID:38647534 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.24.08354-0 (Source: European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine)

Effectiveness of the online-based comprehensive cognitive training application, Smart Brain, for community-dwelling older adults with dementia: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Smart Brain significantly improved cognitive function, reduced depression, and enhanced physical and nutritional status in older adults with dementia. This demonstrates its potential as an effective non-pharmacological intervention in community-based dementia care.CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: Smart Brain's personalized approach, which integrates user-specific preferences and expert guidance, enhances engagement and goal achievement in dementia care. This enhances self-esteem and clinical outcomes, demonstrates the application's potential to innovate rehabilitation practices.PMID:38647533 | DOI:10.23736/S197...

Diabetes is associated with longitudinal declined physical performance measures in persons with or at risk of knee osteoarthritis: data from the osteoarthritis initiative
CONCLUSIONS: DM was associated with negative impact on Gait Speed and Repeated Chair Stand Test time in individuals with or at risk of knee OA. Individuals with knee OA and diabetes who exhibit declining physical performance measures are at risk of functional dependence, reduced quality of life, and complex rehabilitation requirements.PMID:38647532 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.24.08034-1 (Source: European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine)

'To have a plan': teachers' perceptions of working with a literacy instruction combining phonics and comprehension applications for students with intellectual disability and communication difficulties
CONCLUSION: Four themes were identified in the analysis. It was seen that the teachers found it valuable to have access to two apps accessing and facilitating the use of different literacy strategies in meeting the needs of individual students. This digital format was also perceived as positive, contributing to creating a supportive and systematic learning environment that enhanced and increased literacy learning. The teachers recurringly also talked about the positive influence of participating in research, lifting the strong focus, and positive attention as very important for both teachers and students.PMID:38646848 | DO...
