Representation of child and youth participation within the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS)
CONCLUSION(S): The representation of participation within the UMLS is limited and poorly aligned with the contemporary definition of child and youth participation. Expanding ontological resources to represent child and youth participation is needed to enable better data analytics that reflect contemporary paediatric rehabilitation practice.PMID:38596871 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2338191 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Online awareness: a concept analysis and review of assessment approaches for adults with neurological conditions
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this analysis highlight the complexity of online awareness and its importance in rehabilitation. Psychometrically robust measures of online awareness that are inclusive of the essential elements of this concept are needed to advance practice in this area.PMID:38596894 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2024.2338876 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Effects of rehabilitation exercise program types on dynamic balance in patients with stroke: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSIONS: Exercise programs are effective in improving dynamic balance in stroke patients. Especially, the meta-analysis showed higher Effect Size for balance training and virtual reality than for other programs making this relevant interventions for future head to head superiority studies that compare different balance interventions in stroke.PMID:38598557 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2024.2329849 (Source: Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation)

The association between neuroimaging data and presence of lateropulsion after stroke
CONCLUSIONS: The findings indicate a role of network disconnection in the post-stroke lateropulsion presence. Future, larger-cohort lesion-network mapping studies are recommended.PMID:38598484 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2024.2340339 (Source: Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation)

Predictors of Health-Related Quality of Life Among Women Participating in an Appointment-Based Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
CONCLUSION: Both men and women participating in an appointment-based CR program achieved significant improvements in HRQoL. This approach could be a viable alternative to conventional CR to optimize secondary outcomes for patients.PMID:38595128 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000001096 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing)

Reducing wait times and medical costs for patients: the physiotherapy-led Spine Triage and Rehabilitation (STAR) Clinic
BMJ Open Qual. 2024 Apr 10;13(2):e002670. doi: 10.1136/bmjoq-2023-002670.ABSTRACTThe Sengkang General Hospital Orthopaedic Spine Outpatient Service is facing a growing challenge of increasing number of referrals and waiting times, placing a significant burden on the system. Primary care referrals have an average wait time of 61.1 days, with 34.5%f patients waiting longer than 60 days from referral to appointment, to see a spine physician.Back pain is a very common presentation, with the vast majority resolving after conservative management which commonly includes analgesia, physiotherapy and reassurance. Unfortunately, man...

A multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and rehabilitation program for dysphagia in general hospitals
This article summarizes common conditions causing dysphagia, clinical manifestations, complications, screening assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and nutritional support related to dysphagia. It emphasizes the arrival at a multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and formulation of a rehabilitation management plan for dysphagia in general hospitals in order to provide strategic suggestions for establishing a multidisciplinary collaborative model for swallowing disorder management in general hospitals.PMID:38599879 | DOI:10.5582/bst.2024.01076 (Source: BioScience Trends)

Changes in physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep following pulmonary rehabilitation: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The addition of physical activity promotion to pulmonary rehabilitation improves volume of physical activity, but not intensity, compared to CBPR. High risk of bias and low certainty of evidence suggests that these results should be viewed with caution.PMID:38599676 | PMC:PMC11004771 | DOI:10.1183/16000617.0225-2023 (Source: Respiratory Care)

Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System: Content and Criterion Validity Across Evidence-Based Voice Therapies for Muscle Tension Dysphonia
CONCLUSIONS: The RTSS and RTSS-Voice exhibited strong content validity. The standard RTSS-Voice terminology helped identify, for the first time, commonalities and differences in treatment ingredients, targets, and mechanisms of action across four treatments developed for the same patient population. In the long term, the RTSS and RTSS-Voice could provide the framework for an ever-growing collection of clinically meaningful and evidence-based therapy algorithms with potential to improve research, education, and clinical care.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.25537624.PMID:38597797 | DOI:10.1044/2024_AJSLP...
