On-line pilates program as an alternative to conventional rehabilitation therapy for people with multiple sclerosis, pilot study
Restrictions in physical activity during Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on exercise activities on people with chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis, for whom regular exercise is important for managing the disease. Therefore, alternative forms of exercise and rehabilitation were in high demand. The aim of pilot study was to verify the feasibility and potential effect of an online Pilates exercise programme for people with mild to moderate disability due to multiple sclerosis. Rehabilitation Implications of Cellular Therapy for Cancer
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis paper aims to explore the rehabilitation implications of hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCT) and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, addressing the dearth of literature on rehabilitation for CAR T-cell recipients compared to HSCT patients.Recent FindingsWhile HSCT recipients commonly face weakness and deconditioning, CAR T-cell therapy recipients experience unique toxicities like cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS). Prehabilitation, rehabilitation, and prospective surveillance have emerged as crucial components i...

Clinical evaluation of a patient participation assessment system for upper extremity rehabilitation exercises
Abstract    In conventional and robotic rehabilitation, the patient ’s active participation in exercises is essential for the maximum functional output to be received from therapy. In rehabilitation exercises performed with robotic devices, the difficulty levels of therapy tasks and the device assistance are adjusted based on the patient’s therapy performance to improve active participation. However, the existing therapy performance evaluation methods are based on either some specific device designs or certain therapy tasks, which limits their widespread use. In this paper, the effectiveness of a participation assess...

Profile of paediatric occupational therapy practice in Eastern Mediterranean countries
CONCLUSION: Paediatric occupational therapists are usually exposed to specific age groups and conditions. However, a lack of knowledge practice in some areas and challenges in others exist.SIGNIFICANCE: Within the EM region, knowledge regarding therapists' practices is lacking. Actions should be taken to improve current practice and meet the current needs of clients, and utilise evidence-based practices.PMID:38631391 | DOI:10.1080/11038128.2024.2342536 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy)

Athletic Trainers' Perceptions of Implementing Psychological Strategies for Patient Management: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: Ats have the knowledge to identify when athletes are psychologically affected by injury and can identify common psychological responses. Although Ats acknowledge the value of implementing psychosocial strategies, lack of confidence in implementing basic or advanced techniques, feeling underprepared by their educational program, and lack of clinical training appear to impact the use of psychosocial techniques in clinical practice and the rate of mental health recognition and referral amongst ATs.PMID:38629498 | DOI:10.4085/1062-6050-0705.23 (Source: Journal of Athletic Training)

Toxicity evaluation of dose-escalation in hypofractionated regional nodal irradiation for breast cancer: a retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Patients who received dose-escalation in hypofractionated RNI face a higher risk of developing lymphedema and shoulder stiffness compared to those who received standard-dose hypofractionated RNI. Therefore, it is crucial to implement close and frequent monitoring for early detection, along with timely rehabilitation interventions for these patients.PMID:38631540 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2024.04.014 (Source: Health Physics)

Historical technology transfer activities and productivity of NIDLRR grantees
Assist Technol. 2024 Apr 17:1-13. doi: 10.1080/10400435.2024.2324051. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis paper analyzes the technology-related outputs from The National Institute of Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR). We seek to answer the questions: What are the types and frequency of assistive technology (AT) technology transfer (ATTT) outputs from NIDILRR grants? How does NIDILRR's ATTT generation compare to other granting organizations? What types of ATTT outputs occur, how, and what is the relative productivity of the most frequently funded universities and small businesses performin...

Sex differences and determinants of anxiety symptoms in patients with COPD initiating pulmonary rehabilitation
CONCLUSION: Over a third of COPD patients had clinically relevant anxiety symptoms with a higher prevalence in women than men. Anxiety was associated with younger age, female gender, and impaired QoL. Early recognition and treatment of anxiety in patients with COPD is worthy of consideration for those attending PR, especially women.PMID:38631527 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmed.2024.107633 (Source: Respiratory Care)
