Associations between maternal occupational exposures and pregnancy outcomes among Chinese nurses: a nationwide study
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggested that maternal occupational exposures might be associated with the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes among female nurses in China. We recommend that policy-markers and hospital managers work together to reduce exposure to occupational hazards and improve pregnancy outcomes among female nurses.PMID:37907929 | DOI:10.1186/s12978-023-01704-x (Source: Cancer Control)

A new perspective on isotretinoin in pregnancy: Pregnancy outcomes, evaluation of complex phenotypes, and importance of teratological counselling
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that study design, long-term follow-up, teratological counseling, and implementation of advanced molecular analysis in complex phenotypes with novel phenotypical features are beneficial for understanding the association of congenital anomalies with isotretinoin exposure. While evaluating congenital anomalies, we detected statistically significant differences between isotretinoin exposure before and during the pregnancy vs control, but we did not detect any statistically significant differences between isotretinoin exposure before the pregnancy and controls. Another finding of the study i...

Peripheral muscle mass and motor performance is there a relationship in the neonatal period in premature newborns?
Conclusion: there is a moderate association between size and peripheral muscle strength with measures of motor performance in NB. The PTNB have lower values in the evaluated variables when compared to the TNB. These variables can already be assessed early. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Is it possible to evaluate the relationship between strength and respiratory muscle performance with motor performance in premature newborns in the neonatal period?
Conclusion: PTNB have a lower degree of diaphragmatic thickening, which is strongly related to muscle strength and greater activation of parasternal and this is negatively related to motor performance, suggesting that babies with greater activation of rib cage muscles and lower diaphragm strenght may have lower motor performance. Transcriptomic analysis of the developing rabbits lung: implication of premature birth and post-natal oxygen exposure
Preterm birth alters normal lung development, leading to bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Preterm rabbit is being recognized as a relevant BPD model, but a deeper molecular characterization is needed. The aim was to characterize premature birth and postnatal oxygen impact on lung molecular pathways. Preterm pups delivered at 28 days of gestation were randomly assigned to hyperoxia (HOX 70% O2, n=12) or room-air (RA, 21% O2, n=27) for 14 days. Lungs were harvested at postnatal days 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 14. Age-matched term pups were used as controls (n=27). Radial alveolar count (RAC), acute lung injury (ALI) and transcri...

Etiotypes of persistent airflow obstruction in the general population in different age bins
Conclusion: The prevalence of PAO in the general population is higher in older individuals, and except in early life, is more prevalent in males. It is highly symptomatic and some associated etiotypes vary by age bins. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Impact of tuberculosis on the evolution of pregnancy, delivery and perinatal outcomes
Pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period in women are factors that contribute to the appearance and exacerbation of tuberculosis. Accumulation in the blood of human chorionic gonadotropin, estrogen, glucocorticoids, aldosterone leading to disrupting hormonal balance and immunosuppression.Studying the impact of tuberculosis during the pregnancy and perinatal period.28 cases of tuberculosis diagnosed in women during pregnancy in 2010-2020 were analyzed. The gestation terms in the analyzed cases were: in the first quarter they were diagnosed with TB 7 (25%), in the second quarter – 13 (46,4%), in the third quarte...

Genes, Vol. 14, Pages 1985: Novel Loss of Function Variants in CENPF including a Large Intragenic Deletion in Patients with Str & oslash;mme Syndrome
We report three unrelated patients with Strømme syndrome and, using high-throughput sequencing approaches, we identified novel pathogenic variants in CENPF, including one structural variant, giving a genetic diagnosis to the patients. Patient 1 was a premature baby who died at 26 days with congenital malformations affecting many organs including the brain, eyes, and intestine. She was homozygous for a donor splice variant in CENPF, NM_016343.3:c.1068+1G>A, causing skipping of exon 7, resulting in a frameshift. Patient 2 was a female with intestinal atresia, microcephaly, and a Peters anomaly. She ...

Associated factors in pediatric patients admitted with severe iron-deficiency anemia in the last seven years - the experience of a single pediatric unit
CONCLUSIONS: The most frequent cause of iron-deficiency anemia in infants and children 1-3 years old was the consumption of cow's milk following incorrect diversification and incomplete prophylaxis of iron-deficiency anemia.PMID:37867359 | DOI:10.47162/RJME.64.3.13 (Source: Romanian Journal of Morphology and Embryology)

The third case of Marbach-Rustad progeroid syndrome caused by a de novo LEMD2 variant
Clin Genet. 2023 Oct 23. doi: 10.1111/cge.14441. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMarbach-Rustad progeroid syndrome is an extremely rare disease caused by a heterozygous variant in the LEMD2 gene. To date, only two patients and one LEMD2 pathogenic variant have been reported in Marbach-Rustad progeroid syndrome. Here we describe the third case of Marbach-Rustad progeroid syndrome worldwide, which is also the first case in China. The proband was affected with premature birth, failed to thrive, facial abnormalities, feeding difficulties, skull defects and delayed motor milestones, but had a normal intelligence and speech. Whole...
