Increased Rate of Complications Following Total Knee Arthroplasty in Patients Who Have Polymyositis
Polymyositis (PM) is a systemic connective tissue disorder that can lead to early onset degenerative joint disease and a need for total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Outcomes of TKA in patients who have PM are not well-documented in the literature. The purpose of this study was to evaluate PM as a risk factor for complications after TKA. Clinicopathological Reclassification of Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy to Match the Serological Results of Myositis-Specific Antibodies
CONCLUSIONS: This new clinicopathological classification for IIM in combination with serological test results could be applied to our previous case series. Adoption of the new criteria will lead to a better understanding of the disease and hence new therapeutic insights.PMID:38179634 | DOI:10.3988/jcn.2022.0432 (Source: Journal of Clinical Neurology)

Anti-EJ antibody-positive interstitial pneumonia with breast cancer improved by combining immunosuppressive therapy and chemotherapy
We present a case of a 45-year-old woman diagnosed with interstitial pneumonia (IP) during a comprehensive breast cancer evaluation. Although the patient showed no obvious clinical symptoms of polymyositis or dermatomyositis, the presence of anti-glycyl-transfer ribonucleic acid synthetase antibodies confirmed anti-synthetase syndrome. The patient began methylprednisolone for treatment of the IP. She then received preoperative chemotherapy with epirubicin and cyclophosphamide before undergoing a mastectomy. A significant improvement was seen in the patient's IP during treatment. This case emphasizes the potential advantage...

Polymyositis following varicella and mumps infection in adults: report of two cases
The objective of this study is to describe the clinical features and the treatment strategy of 2 cases of polymyositis developing shortly after chickenpox and mumps, respectively, and to review the existing literature on the topic. The clinical records of the 2 patients suspected to have developed inflammatory myositis following a viral infection were reviewed. Their clinical history, main laboratory findings, and treatment outcome are presented here. Moreover, a literature search was performed in the PubMed and MEDLINE databases to identify reports describing the association between viral infections and IIMs in patients a...
