Streptococcal pyomyositis in asplenia and underlying connective tissue disease
We describe a 31-year-old man with S. pneumoniae pyomyositis whose diagnosis and hospital course were complicated by an immunocompromised state from asplenia and an underlying connective tissue disease, Stickler syndrome. Underlying connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and polymyositis can predispose patients to infection, but susceptibility with Stickler syndrome is less known. While pyomyositis is only seen in up to 0.2% of US hospital admissions, it remains a pertinent differential for patients with asplenia and connective tissue disease.PMID:37334073 | PMC:PMC10269408 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2...

CCL21/CCR7 axis as a therapeutic target for autoimmune diseases
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 Jun 16;121:110431. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.110431. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChemokine receptor 7 (CCR7) is a G protein-coupled receptor containing 7 transmembrane domains that is expressed on various cells, such as naive T/B cells, central memory T cells, regulatory T cells, immature/mature dendritic cells (DCs), natural killer cells, and a minority of tumor cells. Chemokine ligand 21 (CCL21) is the known high-affinity ligand that binds to CCR7 and drives cell migration in tissues. CCL21 is mainly produced by stromal cells and lymphatic endothelial cells, and its expression is significantl...
