Risk of autoimmune diseases after post-traumatic stress disorder: a nationwide cohort study
AbstractThis longitudinal study aimed to investigate the risk of subsequent autoimmune disease in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in Asian population. Between 2002 and 2009, we enrolled 5273 patients with PTSD and 1:4 matched controls from the National Health Insurance Database of Taiwan, and followed up the patients until December 31, 2011, or death. The investigated autoimmune diseases included thyroiditis, lupus, rheumatic arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, Sjogren ’s syndrome, dermatomyositis, and polymyositis. The Cox regression model was used to estimate the risk of developing autoimmune dis...

Pediatric mixed connective tissue disease versus other overlap syndromes: a retrospective multicenter cohort study
AbstractPediatric mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is a subgroup of overlap syndromes. We aimed to compare the characteristics and outcomes in children with MCTD and other overlap syndromes. All MCTD patients met either Kasukawa or Alarcon-Segovia and Villareal criteria. The patients with other overlap syndromes had the features of ≥ 2 autoimmune rheumatic diseases but did not meet MCTD diagnostic criteria. Thirty MCTD (F/M = 28/2) and thirty (F/M = 29/1) overlap patients were included (disease onset < 18 years). The most prominent phenotype at disease onset and the last visit was systemic lup...

Plasma pentraxin 3 in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies: a possible new biomarker of disease activity
Clin Exp Immunol. 2023 Jun 6:uxad063. doi: 10.1093/cei/uxad063. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPentraxin-3 (PTX3) is a component of humoral innate immunity with essential functions both in promotion and resolution of inflammation. We aimed to study the PTX3 in the plasma and in the muscle of patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) and whether PTX3 may correlate with disease activity. Plasma PTX3 levels were assessed in 20 patients with IIMs, 10 Dermatomyositis (DM) and 10 Polymyositis (PM), compared to 10 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and 10 healthy donors (HDs) aged, sex and body mass index matched...

Pulmonary hypertension, nephrotic syndrome, and polymyositis due to hepatitis C virus infection: A case report
CONCLUSION: Increasing evidence supports a relationship between hepatitis C infection and diverse extrahepatic manifestations, but it is very rare to have PH, nephrotic syndrome, and polymyositis in a single patient. We conducted a literature review on the management of several specific extrahepatic manifestations of hepatitis C.PMID:37274804 | PMC:PMC10237099 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v29.i19.3040 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology : WJG)
