Ferroptosis is involved in trophoblast cells cytotoxicity induced by black phosphorus nanoparticles
Toxicology. 2024 Apr 21;505:153810. doi: 10.1016/j.tox.2024.153810. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBlack phosphorus (BP) is a new type of nanomaterial, which has been widely used in many biomedical fields due to its superior properties, but there are few studies on the toxicity of BP, especially in the reproductive system. To explore the effects of BP exposure on reproduction and reveal its molecular mechanism, we firstly investigated the potential toxicity of black phosphorus nanoparticles (BPNPs) in vivo. The results showed that BP exposure in pregnant mice can reduce the weight of fetal mice and placenta. H&E stainin...

Modified phosphogypsum whiskers for decontamination of mercury tailings
In this study, PG whiskers were modified by ZnCl2 and S, chitosan-hydrochloric acid, and thioglycolic materials; the resulting modified whiskers were used to decontaminate Hg tailings. Leaching tests and orthogonal experiments were conducted to optimize the modification parameters, including modifier quantity, pH, reaction temperature, and reaction time. The structure and physicochemical properties of the whiskers before and after modification were characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The stabilization efficiency of the modifi...

Mitigation of biofouling in membrane bioreactors by quorum-quenching bacteria during the treatment of metal-containing wastewater
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 22. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33336-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTQuorum quenching (QQ) is an efficient way to mitigate membrane biofouling in a membrane bioreactor (MBR) during wastewater treatment. A QQ bacterium, Lysinibacillus sp. A4, was isolated and used to mitigate biofouling in an MBR during the treatment of wastewater containing metals. A QQ enzyme (named AilY) was cloned from A4 and identified as a metallo-β-lactamase-like lactonase. The QQ activity of A4 and that of Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) overexpressing AilY could be promoted by Fe2+, Mn2+, and Zn2+ while remaining una...

Sustainable adsorbent frameworks based on bio-resourced materials and biodegradable polymers in selective phosphate removal for waste-water remediation
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 22. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33253-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhosphorus to an optimum extent is an essential nutrient for all living organisms and its scarcity may cause food security, and environmental preservation issues vis-à-vis agroeconomic hurdles. Undesirably excess phosphorus intensifies the eutrophication problem in non-marine water bodies and disrupts the natural nutrient balance of the ecosystem. To overcome such dichotomy, biodegradable polymer-based adsorbents have emerged as a cost-effective and implementable approach in striking a "desired optimum-undesired excess"...

Dual Redox Reaction Sites for Pseudocapacitance Based on Ti and -P Functional Groups of Ti3C2PBrx MXene
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 22:e202403508. doi: 10.1002/anie.202403508. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMXenes have extensive applications due to their different properties determined by intrinsic structures and various functional groups. Exploring different functional groups of MXenes leads to improved performance or potential applications. In this work, we prepared new Ti3C2PBrx (x=0.4-0.6) MXene with phosphorus functional groups (-P) through a two-step gas-phase reaction. The acquisition of -P is achieved by replacing bromine functional groups (-Br) of Ti3C2Br2 in the phosphorus vapor. After -Br is replaced with -P, ...

A Novel Perspective on Enhancing Photocatalytic Performance through the Synergistic Effect of Nd Single Atoms and Heterostructures
In this paper, the synergistic effect of 4f levels of Nd and heterostructures is studied by combining steady-state, transient, and ultrafast spectral analysis techniques with DFT theoretical calculations based on the construction of Nd single atom-modified black phosphorus/g-C3N4 (BP/CN) heterojunctions. AbstractThere are few reports on lanthanide single atom modified catalysts, as the role of the 4f levels in photocatalysis is difficult to explain clearly. Here, the synergistic effect of 4f levels of Nd and heterostructures is studied by combining steady-state, transient, and ultrafast spectral analysis techniques with DF...
