GPA cut for getting into pediatric residency?
Wondering what the average gpa for needing to get into pediatric residency is? I hear that pediatrics is getting more and more competitive and that a 3.7+ is sufficient. So far my gpa does not even reach a 3.5, and I'm not sure if I should not pursue a specialty at all. Would appreciate any thoughts/feedback on this! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pediatric dentistry on call
Hi guys, just wondering about possibly doing a pediatric dentistry residency. My main concern is the on call component. Wondering what it looks like and how hectic it would be in a 2year program? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Texas pediatric dental ranking question
Hello! Currently interviewing for pediatric dental residency and needed some help with rank. 1. If I plan to live in Texas after residency does it make the most sense to stay in Texas for residency? 2. Would you rank the UT San Antonio no stipend option over Houston or over another out of state stipend program without as much oral sedation that still meets requirements? 3. Would you rank programs based on amount of oral sedation cases? 4. Any info on UT Houston program? Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do you think it would be fair to let one's pediatrician know that they misdiagnosed them as a child?
On a study break and thinking about this and wondering if you would want to know you made a pretty large impact on someone's life by diagnosing them with something that they don't have. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Peds/Locum threads
Hi, apologies (I did search a bit--but haven't figured out how to restrict searches to the peds forums). My mother--a pediatrician--is partially retired and thinking of doing locums at a nearby hospital. I do mainly locums but in neurology, so while I'm very concerned to protect my mother from the scummy stuff I see (it takes awhile to get educated on rates, how to negotiate with locums) I have no idea of pediatric locums rates/salaries, what to look into etc. Anyone have any insight on... electives during fellowship
Currently doing fellowship and unfortunately I am the only fellow (no senior fellows to guide). I have already been exploited by nurses and medical assistants when I first came here to do their share of work (prior authorizations, medical forms), and this place has an NP telling the fellow the tasks and the schedule. Now they are saying that during electives I am supposed to stick to my normal clinic schedule that I have year around (not including research) in addition to the elective. On my... advice needed-preventive medicine residency
Hello there, I joined studentdoctor to ask this question. I assumed this was the best specialty forum. If its not, feel free to move it somewhere else. I am currently a PGY-1 in Pediatrics. At some point, I plan on applying to preventive medicine residency programs. My preference is to apply this year and enter a program starting in July 2015. My issue is that I still want to be able to practice clinically, albeit in a limited manner (travel clinics, HIV, TB clinics, global health/refugee... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

LOR's needed for triple board program
I'm curious for the triple board psych/childpsych/peds program what kind of letters you would need to send to a program type like this. A letter from a psychiatrist, child psychiatrist and pediatrician? Would the letter writer have to write about your interest in the triple board or just how you'd be a good fit to their respective field? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Caution for those going into OMFS for Private Practice/Teeth
PSA to everyone going into OMFS for private practice/dental procedures. The days of a secure future in private practice are numbered. One company is planning to ablate wisdom teeth buds before they become wisdom teeth which will undercut oral and maxillofacial surgeons like never before. It is marketed to general dentists and pediatric dentists in mind and has already completed animal testing. If you do not love big OR procedures and want to spend most of your career doing dentoalveolar, all... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
