Neurotic am I going to match post
Third year DO student, currently doing rotations. Failed third semester OPP and successfully remediated it, the rest of my pre-clinical grades are fine. Was concerned about passing step 1 so I Only took comlex and scored >480. Im wanting to do pediatrics or family medicine, and all my advisor's mentors etc have told me I really shouldn't worry too much about not matching, but I am extremely stressed out about it. Im not looking to go to Harvard just scared i won't match and be screwed... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

First Failure with advise.
Well I managed to pass all my classes, pass boards and do generally good. However, I finally had my first failure with a final grade sitting at 69.3. The moral of the story, don’t let yourself burn out because this is how I ended up here. The course was a pediatric course. I’ve been trying to get pregnant for sometime with out success. Seeing all the baby images finally tipped me over the edge. I learned burn out is staring at a lecture for hours without retaining information. Take a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Membership in Honorary/Professional Societies on ERAS
If you paid for membership of societies like the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) or the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and have attended their national conferences would you add them in the "Membership in Honorary/Professional Societies" section? Or should you be in a leadership position in these organizations if you list them in ERAS in this section? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help!? What programs am I competitive for?
Hi everyone, I am a current 3rd year medical student who is strongly considering applying to pediatrics residency programs with the goal of doing a Neonatology fellowship. For the longest time, I was set on anesthesia but after spending some time in the NICU, I realized I enjoyed that much more and I have a pretty unique story. I will post some of my information below. My goal is to obviously match into the best program possible and I would like to go back home to California! Background... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Chances at matching into Peds given multiple red flags
Hi future colleagues (hopefully). I am a 3rd yr DO student who has had a terrible experience with medical school thus far. Ive been pretty dead set on doing peds but now worry that my chances are slipping through my fingers, if not already gone. What are the chances for a student with 1 preclinical repeat year (left middle of 1st semester of medschool, if that even matters) and a COMLEX level 1 failure to match into peds? I am scheduled to take both COMLEX 1 and Step1 in 1 month. Id like to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

No staffed pediatric ICU beds left in North Texas region, hospital official says
It seems like Delta seems to having a bigger impact on the young compared to the other Covid variants as I don’t remember pediatric ICU filling up like this last year. I have to wonder what is going to happen in states like Texas and Florida which have re opened schools but don’t have mask policies in place. “A spike in COVID-19 cases has resulted in no pediatric ICU beds left in the North Texas region, hospital officials said Thursday.”... Research for PICU fellowships
PGY-3 peds resident at a low-to-midtier academic Northeast peds program applying to PICU. Colleague had mentioned that a publication is more impressive to PICU programs than a presentation (maybe because they’ve been virtual past 1.5 years)… any truth to this? I’d love to know what to emphasize in interviews if they ask me about my research. Also, how much research experience is too little for PICU (I’ve heard that PICU as a career is not as research-heavy as NICU or cardiology)? I feel... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Finding shadowing opportunities with absolutely no connections?
Hello! I have absolutely no idea how to go about pursuing this. My pediatrician is in a different state, my current pcp is a pa who doesn't know any physicians, and none of my family members are physicians or know any near me. Every time I look up advice on finding physicians to shadow, they always say use your connections, and I have none. My undergraduate pre med advisors have no idea how to get shadowing hours when you have no connections, students usually have connections. Is cold... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
