Help with Texas Rank List!
I am part of the JAMP program and, as such, our rank lists are due in just a week! I am interested in going into pediatrics and really value student wellness. I already know my top choice will be Baylor (with preference being Houston)- I am from Houston and love Texas Children's, their new curriculum, and clinical and research opportunities, and also global health options. And everyone I met on interview day and when I visited was super nice and welcoming. However, I cannot figure out how to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Outpatient tonsils question
The 2019 AAO-HNFS guidelines for tonsillectomy state that pediatric patients with severe OSA should be admitted for post-op monitoring and more specifically that obese patients with BMI >95% should undergo sleep studies to check for severe OSA. However, per their own admission, compliance with these guidelines is quite low, roughly in the 40% range. There are a number of reasons for non-compliance including lack of sleep study availability, cost, disagreement with the validity of the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice on clinical experience
Hi folks, I am a non-trad premed with vast experience in finance. To get clinical experience I applied to work as a Medical Assistant in a chain pediatrics clinic in NYC. Additionally, I also applied for a medical scribe position at a chain urgent care facility called CityMD. Despite having no certification, I got offered both positions. My question is which one should I accept. Based on your experience, which one would be better for med school application. I would really... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Individual Sleep Patterns/Preferences
I was consulting with a pediatric ENT and pediatric dentist earlier today on ankyloglossia regarding a patient and how this can contribute to behavioral and ADHD-like symptom presentation and the need for improved screening as it’s not entirely uncommon and generally underdiagnosed. We all know about quality sleep as essential for optimal functioning and the conversation left me wondering about actual sleep patterns among healthcare professionals and how individual sleep... Wife is a Pediatric ENT, If I Join the Army Through the HPSP How does that Affect Her Career?
As the title above. I am an older premed student starting next fall. My wife is a fellowship trained Peds ENT. I have always wanted to join the Army, and I am looking at the HPSP as a good way to stay in the green during med school. (Prior to this time I was the primary earner in the house with a good salary, and I have a hard time taking all that debt especially with she just getting started as an attending) If I do this, can you give me some idea about what kind of limitations ( or... Fellowship interviews - reading too much into interview schedule order
The classic paranoia mid-interview season is setting in for me. I've had 6 fellowship interviews so far and for all 6 I have been scheduled last with the PD. At first I thought nothing of it, but now with the sixth schedule in hand, I'm starting to feel a little paranoid that I'm being seen at the end of the day consistently when all the PDs are tired. Is this a bad thing? I'm sure it actually doesn't mean anything and I'm just letting my GAD get the best of me, but was wondering if anyone... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PICU vs MICU (complexity of management/procedures/on-your-feet thinking, etc)
Hey all, I was deadset on EM/PEM when I first entered med school, then the wave of doom and gloom had me switch focus and I tentatively looked towards Med/Peds. As I've gone through my rotations, I loved working with kids, I loved working with complex problems, and I loved the MICU. The thing is, I wont be able to get any PICU experience until after ERAS, and so deciding between IM and Peds is becoming difficult (Med/Peds really just being a back-up due to decision crisis heh). So how does... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Early PICU attending career in an academic setting vs Non-clinical Pharmaceutical career, what to choose?
Hi everyone, I am a new PICU attending [10 months of work experience right after fellowship] and I am currently on 3 months of maternity leave after having my third baby. I also have Ph.D. and research-related experience. I have a friend who left adult hem onc job after 10 years of attending experience and is extremely happy in the pharmaceutical industry as a clinical research physician. I am considering joining the pharmaceutical industry too but it's a giant leap of faith hence I made... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does your medical specialty before going into HPM affect what kind of career you can have in HPM after finishing your fellowship?
Does your medical specialty before going into HPM affect what kind of career you can have in HPM after finishing your fellowship or does being boarded in HPM put everyone on somewhat of an equal footing? Do people who went from EM -> HPC normally end up in the same roles as someone who did IM -> HPC or Pediatrics -> HPC? Could someone who did EM -> HPC work in a hospice or see pediatric patients?
