Locums/Moonlighting/Telehealth during PICU fellowship
Hi! I was recently talking to a couple of friends who are pursuing fellowship (PICU and PCards to be specific) and mentioned they've started taking some locums gigs at urgent care clinics during their off days while the other took up telehealth, both in their respective states. Has anyone had similar experience since I'm interested to pursue something on similar lines, not particularly to pay off debt but I currently live very close to my hospital which is in a very expensive area in one of... Do we register for NRMP match for IM fellowships?
Sorry for asking here but my program is not offering much guidance. Do we apply for NRMP match for IM? If so how does the timeline work, because on AAMC ERAS it asks for your NRMP ID (and this application is due July 20th) but on NRMP website it says NRMP match does not open until August 24 for medical specialties? Mentioning Conditional Pass in Personal Statement
Long story short, during my first clerkship of third year (pediatrics) I had to remediate just the standardized patient portion of the course and subsequently received a conditional pass. Other than this, I received a mix of High Pass and Honors in the remaining clerkships. My question is whether or not this should be addressed in my personal statement on ERAS. I plan on applying IM with preference to an academic program around NYC. My home program director thinks I should briefly mention... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What is considered primary care?
Hi! I'm wondering if someone could help clarify this for me. I am interested in neonatology, which starts with a 3 year pediatric residency. One of the schools I am applying to has a primary care track for extra mentorship in 'internal medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, and family medicine'. Would it be wrong to say I am interested in this track if I plan on becoming a neonatologist ultimately? Is neonatology considered primary care? I always thought they were considered a specialty, but now... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Not happy with fellowship program- need advice
I am an IMG and matched last year into pedi cardiology. I had a very good application (i think) and a strong research background. I went to 12 interviews (4 of them were prestigious and a reach for me so I did not expect anything from them). Interviews went well, got the usual response during and after the interviews (you have a good application, you will be a good fit, you will do well ..etc). I was surprised on match day that I matched to the last program in my rank list, a program I was... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pediatric Residency vs. General?
I'm a rising D3 and have been interested in pediatrics for quite some time now. I 100% know that that's what I want to do after dental school, however, part of me doesn't want to pick up and move again in 2 years. I am an in-state student and the 2 current dental schools here do have pediatric programs, but, of course, there's no guarantee I'm admitted to either of them. I wanted to ask what are the benefits of completing residency vs. working in a pediatric office as a general... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

J1 waiver (3 gap years) before PICU fellowship
As a non-US IMG on a J1 visa, I have to work in a medically underserved community for 3 years to obtain a waiver of the 2-year home country residency requirement (going back for 2 years after my J1 visa study). I have 2 options - My preferred option is to do my fellowship right after residency (still on J1) and then find employment for 3 years (hopefully in PICU but if I don't find a J1 waiver job in PICU I will have to do something in General Peds). The second option is to do the 3-year... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

For those of you who work in hospital systems or academic medical centers, how important is “the name” to you? Given these two situations, which would you choose: 1. Adress a red flag in fellowship personal statement?
Hi, I am a non-US IMG at a community-based program in NYC (with a very strong affiliation to a large academic center). I have an attempt in my step 2 CK (209). I was doing my Peds residency in India and did not prepare properly. I retook the exam 6 months later (still during residency) and scored 245. I had addressed this in my residency personal statement and had received 11 interviews and matched Peds to my #2 choice. Since then I have scored top scores in my India Peds residency... Procedure Competence During PICU Fellowship
It’s no secret that pediatric residents who want to do PICU won’t get many procedures until fellowship. During residency, I’ve had all of my procedures for my PICU patients, e.g. intubations/central lines/A-lines/chest tubes, given to anesthesia or ED residents rotating with us, for convenience as they do these all the time. One question I had while applying for PICU fellowship (no geographic ties) was: could the presence of other fellowships, such as PEM, peds surgery, or peds anesthesia... "Not finding the medicine interesting in pediatrics" - what does that mean?
tl;dr – Title basically says it all. I've read/heard several people say they ended up not going into pediatrics because they "didn't find the medicine interesting in peds" or something along those lines, but none of them elaborated on what they meant. I've asked a couple MS4s that I know who are going into pediatrics, and they have no idea what that means. Does anybody here know what people mean when they say that? This is a relatively pointless post, as I'll see firsthand how I like peds... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
