Nontraumatic orbital hematoma secondary to labor and childbirth: a case report and review of the literature
ConclusionsNon-traumatic orbital hematomas associated with maternal labor are rare and likely related to increased valsalva during delivery and heightened blood volume in pregnancy. Neuro-imaging and systemic workup are recommended to assess for vascular anomalies or underlying coagulopathies. The overall prognosis is favorable with most having full recovery. Patient acceptable symptom state and treatment failure threshold values for work productivity and activity Impairment and EQ-5D-5L in osteoarthritis
ConclusionPASS and TF threshold values for WPAI and EQ-5D-5L might be useful for meaningful interpretation of these measures among people with OA. The observed baseline dependency of estimated thresholds limits their generalizability and values should be applied with great caution in other settings/populations. Differential relationships between physical activity and pain phenotypes in individuals with spinal cord injury
CONCLUSION: Differential relationships exist between pain phenotypes and MVPA in individuals with SCI. Pain location differed between the subgroups of nociceptive pain, which we presume may indicate the presence of nociplastic pain in some individuals. These results may contribute to the advancement of personalized pain management by targeting non-pharmacological interventions for specific pain phenotypes.Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT05236933..PMID:38661677 | DOI:10.1080/10790268.2024.2344315 (Source: Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine)

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed by a surgical care practitioner: a review of outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: There is a paucity of published data on surgical outcomes of procedures performed by SCPs. With a structured, supervised approach, SCPs could be trained to take on more complex procedures and further strengthen the surgical workforce. This study demonstrates that elective LC can be safely performed by an appropriately trained and supervised SCP.PMID:38660827 | DOI:10.1308/rcsann.2023.0058 (Source: Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England)

Transdermal Opioids and the Quality of Life of the Cancer Patient: A Systematic Literature Review
CONCLUSIONS: Transdermal therapy was suggested to have several advantages over oral opioid therapy in enhancing cancer patients' QoL. These benefits span various dimensions, including pain management, physical functioning, mental health, vitality, overall patient improvement, anger/aversion, strength/activity, general QoL, cognitive and emotional functions, fatigue, and insomnia.PMID:38659244 | DOI:10.1177/10600280241247363 (Source: The Annals of Pharmacotherapy)

The pharmacist's role in optimizing medication management before, during, and after minimally invasive and bariatric surgery
CONCLUSION: Pharmacist contributions to perioperative medication management for MIS procedures can improve care as surgical patients navigate transitions through the perioperative setting. Pharmacists can further incorporate medication expertise through development and implementation of institutional MIS protocols within the context of ERPs. As such, any pharmacist should feel empowered to aid in the care of surgical patients.PMID:38662339 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae111 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)
