Extemporaneous combination therapy with nebivolol/amlodipine for the treatment of hypertension: a real-world evidence study in Europe
Conclusions: The extemporaneous combination of nebivolol and amlodipine is commonly prescribed in Europe, however adherence to the therapy is poor. The development of a single-pill combination of nebivolol and amlodipine may improve adherence by reducing the number of pills administered to patients and thus simplifying treatment regimens.PMID:38459774 | DOI:10.1080/03007995.2024.2328652 (Source: Current Medical Research and Opinion)

Effect of Concomitant Drugs on Sodium Zirconium Cyclosilicate Hydrate in Artificial Intestinal Juice
Chem Pharm Bull (Tokyo). 2024;72(3):286-293. doi: 10.1248/cpb.c23-00687.ABSTRACTTo explore drug interactions involving sodium zirconium cyclosilicate hydrate (SZC) and concomitant drugs like calcium antagonists (amlodipine and nifedipine) and β-blockers (carvedilol and bisoprolol), we investigate how these concomitant drugs influenced the administration of SZC in an artificial intestinal juice. Initially, we assessed the potassium ion adsorption capacity, ranking it as follows: calcium polystyrene sulfonate (CPS, 54.9 mg/g) < sodium polystyrene sulfonate (SPS, 62.1 mg/g) < SZC (90.8 mg/g). However, the adsorption eq...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1087: Design of Experimental Approach for Development of Rapid High Performance Liquid Chromatographic Process for Simultaneous Estimation of Metoprolol, Telmisartan, and Amlodipine from Formulation: Greenness and Whiteness Evaluation
nroop B. Nair The design of an experimental approach, the Box–Behnken design, was implemented to optimize the chromatographic condition to develop a rapid HPLC procedure for quantification of a ternary mixture of metoprolol (MET), telmisartan (TEL), and amlodipine (AML) from the formulation. The perturbation plots, contour, and 3D response surface pictures were developed to study the impact of each variable on the analytes’ retention time and the probable interaction between the parameters with fewer chromatographic runs. The optimized HPLC method separated the three analytes within 5 min wi...

Severe Hypercalcemia Caused by Calcium-Alkali Syndrome after 15  Years of Postoperative Hypoparathyroidism in a Patient with Undiagnosed Hyperaldosteronism
CONCLUSION: Although seldom described, the calcium-alkali syndrome is an expected complication for individuals with postoperative hypoparathyroidism, as they require lifelong calcium and vitamin D supplementation. This case also shows the importance of hydrochlorothiazide use and primary aldosteronism as possible triggers of life-threatening hypercalcemia.PMID:38404648 | PMC:PMC10890900 | DOI:10.1155/2024/3067354 (Source: Cancer Control)

Successful management of HeartMate 3 in a patient with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy
AbstractThe management of right heart failure during durable left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support remains an unsolved issue so far. We had a 44-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy and received HeartMate 3 LVAD (Abbott, USA) implantation as a bridge-to-transplant indication. The pump speed was adjusted as low as 4500 rpm to avoid the left ventricular narrowing and interventricular septal leftward shift. Riociguat was administered to decrease the afterload of the right ventricle and increase the preload of the left ventricle, in addition to the combination o...
