An evaluation of junior doctors' experience in smoking cessation training in a rural mental health setting
CONCLUSION: This study indicates the utility of a novel approach in delivering education, training, building clinical expertise, and facilitating sustained clinical capacity amongst junior medical staff for smoking cessation in a rural community mental health setting. It offers an efficient approach for mental health services to deliver smoking cessation services to reduce the morbidity and mortality burden associated with tobacco smoking.PMID:36090379 | PMC:PMC9452630 | DOI:10.3389/fpsyt.2022.868212 (Source: Rural Remote Health)

Which smokers enrol in a hospital based smoking cessation trial? Survey of smoking related behaviours, quit attempts and motivation to quit
CONCLUSIONS: Those who had a prior hospitalisation and were unemployed had significantly greater odds of reporting past quit attempts. Further research is needed to investigate the degree of adherence among inpatient smokers with the smoke-free hospital policies and the frequency of NRT provision and uptake on admission. A Just-In-Time Adaptive intervention (JITAI) for smoking cessation: Feasibility and acceptability findings
Addict Behav. 2022 Aug 23;136:107467. doi: 10.1016/j.addbeh.2022.107467. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSmoking cessation treatments that are easily accessible and deliver intervention content at vulnerable moments (e.g., high negative affect) have great potential to impact tobacco abstinence. The current study examined the feasibility and acceptability of a multi-component Just-In-Time Adaptive Intervention (JITAI) for smoking cessation. Daily smokers interested in quitting were consented to participate in a 6-week cessation study. Visit 1 occurred 4 days pre-quit, Visit 2 was on the quit day, Visit 3 occurred 3 days post-...

Duration of the effectiveness of nicotine electronic cigarettes on smoking cessation and reduction: Systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThis meta-analysis shows the duration of the effectiveness of the nicotine electronic cigarette vs. non-nicotine electronic cigarette and NRT on smoking cessation and reduction. There are still uncertainties about the risks of its long-term use and its potential role as a gateway into smoking, particularly among young people. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

A National Survey of NCHDs ’ Awareness and Attitudes Towards Smoking Cessation Interventions in the Outpatients Department
Objective: Cigarette smoking is a modifiable risk factor for occlusive arterial disease, among other pathologies. Physician delivered advice, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), and referral to cessation services are evidence based, cost effective strategies. International studies and local audit data suggest that these techniques are underutilised. A national survey was conducted of non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) to assess awareness and attitudes towards clinic based smoking cessation interventions. Can nicotine replacement therapy be personalized? A statistical learning analysis
Technology has made automated care personalization practical, but useful personalization requires information about systematic differences between individuals in the effectiveness of different interventions. Here, we used observational data to search for differences in smoking cessation treatment outcomes associated with interactions between participant characteristics and different types and doses of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).
