Effect of Menstrual Cycle and Menopause on Human Gastric Electrophysiology
Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol. 2024 May 7. doi: 10.1152/ajpgi.00216.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic gastroduodenal symptoms disproportionately affect females of childbearing age; however, the effect of menstrual cycling on gastric electrophysiology is poorly defined. To establish the effect of the menstrual cycle on gastric electrophysiology, healthy subjects underwent non-invasive Body Surface Gastric Mapping (BSGM; 8x8 array), with validated symptom logging App (Gastric AlimetryⓇ, New Zealand). Participants were premenopausal females in follicular (n=26) and luteal phases (n=18). Postmenopausal fe...

Acupuncture for the treatment of the pain-fatigue-sleep disturbance-numbness/tingling symptom cluster in breast cancer survivors: a feasibility trial
ConclusionThis study demonstrated that acupuncture was safe and feasible, justifying a powered randomized control trial. Preliminary findings suggest beneficial effects of acupuncture for the management of the pain-fatigue-sleep disturbance-numbness/tingling symptom cluster for women with breast cancer. TCM syndromes identified in this trial may be used to guide acupuncture treatment protocols.Clinical trial registration: This trial was registered with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12622000590763) on 21 April 2022. Methylisothiazolinone sensitisation in New Zealand is decreasing
CONCLUSION: Both sensitisation and ACD to MI appear to be decreasing, likely secondary to changes in product compounding due to stricter concentration limits internationally. We recommend New Zealand adopt lower MI concentration limits for cosmetics to match the limits of Australia and Europe.PMID:38706204 | DOI:10.1111/ajd.14301 (Source: The Australasian Journal of Dermatology)

Accuracy of energy and nutrient intake estimation versus observed intake using four technology-assisted dietary assessment methods: a randomized crossover feeding study
CONCLUSIONS: Under controlled conditions, Intake24, ASA24, and mFR-TA estimated average energy and nutrient intakes with reasonable validity, but intake distributions were estimated accurately by Intake24 only (energy and protein). This study may inform considerations regarding instruments of choice in future population surveillance.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry Number ACTRN12621000209897; https://www.anzctr.org.au/Trial/Registration/TrialReview.aspx?id=381165&isReview=true.PMID:38710447 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2024.04.030 (Source: The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)
