DO's ability to match into general surgery after the merger?
Always wanted to be a surgeon, MD or DO doesn't matter to me. But will this goal be attainable as a DO after the merger? I realize that in the past, DO's had an advantage through AOA surgery programs. I have consistently done well on standardized testing (97-99th percentile MCAT) so I am confident I can do well on the USMLE and COMLEX. Of course I know that doesn't mean anything, but I'm willing to work towards my goal. I just want to know if it is decently attainable. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Md do merger 2020 (bad for do)
This merger, to me, seems like an absolute awful idea. What I am basically grasping from this merger is DOs had specialty residencies that only DOs could attend. Now, MDs can attend these same residencies, and on average MDs have better stats than DOs. I am also not making out how the complex vs. USMLE will even factor into all of this. But in the long run DOs are shorted in this merger and MDs will prosper. Any thoughts? Am I wrong? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Walgreens to close/sell 500-1000 Rite Aid stores
Sept 8 (Reuters) - Drugstore chain Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc said it would likely have to divest between 500 and 1000 stores to win regulatory approval for its planned acquisition of Rite Aid Corp. Walgreens had earlier estimated it would not have to sell more than 500 stores to win over regulators.... Walgreens to close/sell 500-1000 Rite Aid stores (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AOA/AMA merger impact
Hi everyone, I will be applying for the 2018 cycle and just wanted some clarification on the merger that is soon to happen (2017?). Is this merger beneficial for DO students since there will be more residency spots to apply for or is it less beneficial now that MD students also have a larger pool? Will hospitals prefer MDs over DOs or does it just depend on your app? I assume its beneficial because the only losing party will be IMGs since DOs/MDs will now compete for the same pool of... Merger and how it will affect class of 2020?
So AOA will cease to exist as accrediting body by June (or is it July) 2020. All remaining residencies have to be accredited by ACGME right? What does this really mean for DOs graduating in 2020? Will it be easier or harder to match? Will they even look at COMLEX at that point or everyone will need USMLE? I have many questions, but maybe someone can shed a light on this god forgotten dark land territory? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What do you all think of this article?
Found this from 2 years ago ... TLDR: AOA will be absorbed by LCME because of the same reasoning that led us to the residency merger. http://aodme.org/wp-content/uploads/The_Unintended_Consequences_of_the_ACGME_Merger.pdf (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ACGME/AOA Merger and DOs
So I thought I would get opinions on here about this. The consensus on r/premed is that After the mergers DO schools will become the new Caribbean and Osteopathic students will be unable to get a residency. I don't think this is true, but I am biased to DO over MD. I know it will be difficult for DOs to get a residency in Derm, but that is difficult for MD students. I'm talking Primary Care residencies and things like general surgery. So do you think that in 5 years it will be extremely... ACGME/AOA Merger and DOs (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice for a 4th year DO
-currently a DO student 4th year -interested in IR not necessarily DR -also interested in pain, EM, surgery Grades-average Usmle:210-215 COMLEX: 520-530 Was originally going to apply osteopathic rads. With the merger, there are concerns if some programs are not going to make it. The ones that did get accredited, are only participating in ACGME match. I am willing to work hard and study hard during residency but don't know how enjoyable it would be for 7 years. I am fascinated by the... Advice for a 4th year DO (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Am I basically throwing away $200,000 if I don't apply to DO schools in my first cycle?
I know DO is a perfectly viable option, but ever since I was a little kid I've dreamed about having the initials MD behind my name (and the merger scares me). What I want to do is apply only MD in my first cycle, and MD+DO in my second cycle if I didn't get in. But by postponing a DO application for a year, won't I basically be throwing away a year's worth of an Attending Physician's earnings (around or over 200k)? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The MD/DO Residency Merger
Since the merger isn't in full effect until 2020, will 2019 graduates of osteopathic medical schools not be affected by the merger? Is residency matching process going to be the same from now until 2020 when the merger comes into effect? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Best path to pain med fellowship?
Hello! Just some quick questions about the best path to pain medicine and the future of this field. With the upcoming merger, do you think that a pain fellowship will be obtainable by DO and MD? Also, is the anesthesia residency or PM&R residency route better to take if the end goal is pain medicine fellowship? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ACGME Merger and USMLE/COMLEX
For those of us medical students graduating in 2020, the year the ACGME merger is supposed to be complete and we apply for to a single system of residencies, which exam are we supposed to take? USMLE or COMLEX? My thinking is, COMLEX will be phased out since DO students will be applying to joint ACGME/AOA residencies and the majority of students will be MD so they'll want to see USMLE scores...
