Sinai SLR vs NYMC
Which is the stronger program, in terms of reputation? I had a better feel about NYMC on interview day, but being in NYC would be nice. Kind of worried about all the different Sinai mergers as well (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Allocated time toward Board prep
I'm not very good at standardized testing, and so naturally I'm concerned about Board exams. I was wondering what's the standard for board prep? I heard some say the school give 4 weeks off, others say 6 weeks? To me this sounds very short. I couldn't imagine preparing for the MCAT in 6 weeks! Also, with the upcoming merger I think more DOs will be taking the USMLE. How do most students find time to study for those on top of the comlex? Are DO programs supportive of their students taking... Allocated time toward Board prep (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Specialties
Hi, Just been accepted to a DO school, and I was wondering what specialties are open to average DO students after ACGME and AOA residency merger? I didn't say I was interested in primary care or rural medicine on my interview trail and I don't really want to be locked into primary care if I don't do well at all. Are surgery, ENT, ortho, anesthesiology, ER, or literally anything that's not primary care still visible if you are like ~50% of the class? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NYMC vs Western University Pomona
So I have had the fortunate opportunity to be accepted to both programs. I live in California and my family currently lives here as well. I know that WesternU has a great reputation in California. As for NYMC, I have heard mixed reviews and cannot seem to find how well it is ranked. Am I going to be put at that much of a disadvantage by attending my home state osteopathic program over an allopathic? Especially if I am applying to residency well after the merger. I got low Comlex level 1. Can I still match into FM? :(
Got my Level 1 score....it's very low at around 430~450, first try...Never took USMLE Never repeated a year or failed a course... DO applicant.. Can I still match? In the context of ACGME merger and everything...do I still stand a chance? I don't particularly care about location or AOA vs ACGME Should I take a leave for a year and study for USMLE step 1? It'd be a nightmare to put all this hard work and not match...Your advice would be great... Thank you.. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Rowan vs KCU
I have been lucky enough to have accepted to KCU-COM Kansas City and have received II's from UIW, AT-Still, Marian and Rowan. I have cancelled my II's to AT-Still and Marian however, I am debating on whether or not I should attend my Rowan SOM Interview. My concern is that it did not seem as if KCU had many opportunities for research. Rowan, on the other hand, seems to have plenty. With the DO/MD residency merger occurring in 2020, I am not sure if this will negatively affect me. I am not... Rowan vs KCU (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice for a DO interested in Ortho
I'm currently an OMSIII graduating in 2019 who is interested in Ortho. I'm kinda confused about the merger and after searching these forms I figured I would just post my situation. I believe that I am a fairly competitive student. I am in the top 15% of the class, been part of clubs, received scholarships, dean list x2, did research in undergrad but my board scores were 685 and 226 for COMLEX and USMLE, respectively. I know that my COMLEX score is relatively competitive for Ortho but my... Advice for a DO interested in Ortho (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why are DO schools promulgating the idea that the residency merger is of benefit to DO students?
I've interviewed at 4 DO schools so far. All of them have mentioned how great the upcoming merger is going to be for DO students. Why? Does anyone really know anything beyond speculation at this point? It seems like to me the only thing DO students might receive from this merger is additional competition into the competitive residencies that were formerly for DO students only. As a DO Should I take USMLE Step 2?
I know this is another one of those threads that gets asked alot, but with the recent changes to accredidtation and the merger coming and no consistent answers in the past about Step 2 I figured I would ask again. I took COMLEX Level 1 and did above a 660, and took USMLE Step 1 and did above 230. I am interested in applying ACGME emergency medicine. However, I will have only 2 weeks off between my last 3rd year rotation which is IM, and my 1st 4th year rotation which is EM, which means I... As a DO Should I take USMLE Step 2? Residency?
What are the chances of a DO matching into a surgery specialty like Cardiothoracics, Neurosurgery, General Surgery. And how does this change with the merger of combined DO/MD programs. Speculating your step 1 scores are good. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medical Oncology for DOs?
I've found myself becoming increasingly interested in medical oncology...is this a relatively open field to DOs? It goes without saying that a good application is a must but assuming that falls into place do DOs have a shot? I'm only an MS1 so the 2021 merger will play a role also. I have the medical specialty guide from the AMA which contains FREIDA information just wanted to ask on here too. Any information is much appreciated thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Impact of DO Merger on competitiveness
Will the DO merger result in it being easier to match into dermatology as a result of the increased spots? I'm a current M3 in bad shape for derm (244, 0 pubs, having trouble getting anything more than a pass for clerkships) and I'm moving towards giving up on my goal of going into derm. However...if competitiveness decreases a bit I could still have a good shot if I take a research year. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
