After watching Somnia screw up Long Beach, Bakersfield, and Fresno, Envision says, "Hold my beer."
So, it goes without saying that all the good anesthesia practices (and I mean ALL the good ones) were bought out 5+ years ago, or are simply not for sale. But what to do if you are losing money with all your recent acquisitions, but your private equity backers want more growth at any cost? You overpay for even worse groups, just to show growth--that's what you do. Envision, not content with merely running continual ads for their dismal sites in Lakewood, Van Nuys, and Torrance (and even... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need advice - Psych vs FM vs Peds (DO student post-merger)
Hey guys, Need thoughts. I only took COMLEX 1 (~600), no step 1. I really loved child psych, peds, and FM rotations. -FM: Love that you can build relationships with adults and kids over time. Don't want to do many procedures or manage HTN and DM all day though...Long hours/exhausting? Some FM-related activities (presentations, club activities). -Child Psych: This is a passion of mine, mental health in kids. However, I am worried about whether I can match psych post-merger given I am a DO... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How do I negotiate my Walgreens job offer?
I’m currently a licensed pharmacist in MA and am hoping to move to IL in the next month or so. I had a phone interview with someone from talent acquisition and a store manager of a Walgreens in IL and was offered a job. When the person from talent acquisition called me, he offered $100K. Honestly I thought that was low, but I’m not sure if it’s hourly or salary and if that offer was based off working 32 hours a week or 40. I was honestly so shocked that I was offered the job that I didn’t... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Likely Non-Compete Clauses Will Go Away
Biden declares war on anti-competitive practices with sweeping order President Biden will sign a sweeping executive order on Friday, aimed at promoting competition in the economy through 72 initiatives cracking down on anti-competitive practices in multiple industries. thehill.com Looks like the White House is on the offensive for non-compete clauses. Will be interesting to see how the larger groups react. Lots of other stuff in the executive order: importing drugs from Canada, investigating hospital mergers, etc. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Low tier MD (PHSU) vs Established DO program
Sorry if this has been answered before, I just don't see a concrete answer. What is the main difference between a low-tier MD vs a DO program? I know there are many differences such as OMM and complex boards, but I am asking specifically for residency/matching purposes. Now that there is an MD-DO merger, what is the main difference between such? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Trends in quality of DO psychiatry residency matches since merger?
Hey all- I was curious if anyone else has noticed an improvement in the quality of psychiatry matches at your DO institution since the merger? I've been following the stats and the DO match rate into psych has gone up quite a bit this year (from low/mid 80s to low 90s), which is the highest it's ever been. Anecdotally and subjectively, the 'quality of psychiatry matches' (defined by me as proportion matching into an academic psych residency) seems to have improved at the few DO programs... Advice for picking rotation site
Second year who will be having to pick a rotation site for the 3rd and 4th year. Open to most specialties but am all in for general surgery until board scores or interests suggest otherwise. My school has a site with a surgery residency that didn’t make the merger but still has residents. Would this be an ok site or should I select sites with residencies that made the merger? Would it at least be a good idea to do an elective there and try to get a letter from the former PD? The site is... Advice for picking rotation site (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thread About Private Equity
I wanted to post a thread where we could discuss actual experiences with private equity. Currently, 11% of all dermatology practices are PE-owned. There is a general distaste among dermatologists for the spurt of PE acquisitions. Can anyone describe personal (or someone they know) experiences with private equity hiring? What were the pay and hours like? What was the ratio of PA/NP to MD? What was the workflow like? Both positive and negative experiences are appreciated. For those... Question About Previously AOA Residencies
In terms of applying to competitive residencies (i.e. ortho, derm, ENT) that were AOA before the merger, how much do these programs value COMLEX? From my understanding, many of these programs would put a lot of weight on comlex scores before the merger happened, so I'm wondering if they continue to do so. I guess my question is, if there is a ortho residency that still takes mostly (if not all) DO students after the merger, do you think a student with an average USMLE + stellar comlex score... How much does being a DO hinder you on the west coast?
Hi! I have searched ad nauseam for a complete discussion on the matter and came up dry for my concerns. I'm only an OMS-I, but I think I want to be an allergist. I am doing my due diligence researching how this will play out if I am even successful. I see a lot of job listings in SoCal and other west coast regions say: MD degree required. A couple years ago, they'd say: ACGME residency only. (Obv with the merger, this is less effective.) The bottom line: there seems to still be... How much does being a DO hinder you on the west coast? GS/ Gas Chances as a DO w/ USMLE Step 1 P/F
With the recent news of the USMLE Step 1 exam becoming P/F for the Class of 2024, I was wondering if you guys could help shed some light on this unique situation. I will be starting medical school at NSU's KPCOM this August and will be impacted by this change. Nova Southeastern, and other DO schools, were successful in helping their students match into competitive specialties in great locations after the merger. This success can definitely be correlated to the students having excellent... GS/ Gas Chances as a DO w/ USMLE Step 1 P/F (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why does everyone hate on the NBOME? What about constructive feedback?
So yeah. I wanted to ask, what is your main reason for not liking NBOME? Do you think the COMLEX is badly written? Is it because of how they handled Level 2 PE during the COVID pandemic? I always thought their main job was to certify docs. And now after the merger, it is to maintain that DO identity? We're always gonna have to deal with them and the AOA anyways. But what is some constructive criticism you would give them? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

reporter working on private equity story
Hi all, I'm a journalist in Los Angeles. I'm reporting a story for the New York Times Magazine about private equity acquisitions of practice groups. I'm looking for doctors with experience working for PE-owned medical practices—young anesthesiologists in particular. Your name doesn't necessarily have to appear in print. Please email if you'd like to talk. I want to hear from you. jwbarron@protonmail.com www.jessebarron.com... reporter working on private equity story (Source: Student Doctor Network)
