RVU vs CNU
Hi all, I am having a hard time choosing between RVU and CNU. Here is the short list: RVU pros: Good board scores and match list Love the area Great curriculum RVU cons: Do school (which doesn’t bother me but not sure how i would be affected with the residency merger) Cnu pros: MD Good usmle scores Cnu cons: location of school Did not have a great feeling during interview day Private loans Match list didn’t seem very impressive to me Overall I like RVU better in terms of... The Kind of Anti-DO Bias We Should REALLY Be Talking About
So during my time in medical school I’ve heard all kinds of things about the upcoming merger and speculation about the types of bias we’re going to be seeing, whether it be former AOA programs preferring to still take DOs, going half and half, etc, pros and cons of students taking Step 1 and it opening doors to programs, and the like. However with my classmates preparing for their 4th year rotations and setting up always/ sub-Is/ auditions, I’ve seen some really obvious anti-DO bias on the... Reapply or go DO?
3.78cgPA, 3.64sgpa, 520 MCAT I got accepted into a DO school. But with the residency merger in 2020, I don't know if that's the right call. I applied to several special master's programs so far, should I reapply MD or take the DO? I want the best chance at matching in the future. Is reapplying worth the risk? This June would be the last time I could use my MCAT. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

5th year + boards, chances in peds?
So I'm finishing 2nd year (technically 3rd year since I 5th year'd) at a D.O. school in the midwest and I'm going to be taking COMLEX in 6 weeks. I got a 360 and 380 on my baselines (just now starting to really dedicate time towards board studying) and things are kind of a mess in terms of my resume. No research, no leadership, mostly Bs. With this merger how are my odds of getting a residency in peds (assuming I will get way < 470. Are peds residencies huge on board scores (more... 5th year + boards, chances in peds? What is your school's start to finish success rate?
Like caribbean schools, the numbers need to be made available on the actual success rate of each class, meaning full attrition of how many of the students that start on day one make it to graduation with a secured residency spot. I know my school has had drop outs, held back a year, and kicked students out, much higher attrition than I could imagine as a premed, but these obviously do not show up match or even "placement" statistics. Part of the schools answer to the merger has been to... What is your school's start to finish success rate? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

EX-AOA programs after the merger
Hey everyone, Before the merger I remember everyone on SDN debating whether such a move by the AOA would ultimately benefit or harm DO students in the match, and whether those PDs will still show a preference for DO students. Now that a large number of these programs have transitioned, I was wondering what the intern classes in your area are looking like with the number of DO students still matching into these programs. It's a little concerning where I am as our IM program went from 10... EX-AOA programs after the merger (Source: Student Doctor Network)

COMLEX vs USMLE post-merger
As a pre-med student applying to both DO and MD programs, I am trying my best to educate myself about the residency merger. These might be dumb questions, but I have experienced trouble researching them. Will DO schools adjust their curriculum to focus more on USMLE prep? What is the purpose of keeping the COMLEX, and what incentive is there to study for this post-merger? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

In light of nearly 20% not matching ACGME and AOA spots disappearing, sign this petition!
With the merger and an 80% match rate in the acgme, once the merger occurs, 1 in 5 students will have their life turned upside down with 200-400k debt and no job to show for it. Let's be proactive prior to it happening and sign this petition! I know this wont change much, but if we get it seen, the gear may start moving.... Is MD worth it for me?? Post merger question also
I read a thread that kind of had me thinking, but basically the question was "is it reasonable to take gap years to get into MD" and one of the comments was "if you can't out compete premeds trying to get into MD schools, what makes you think you can out compete all those MD students" or something to that extent and another comment saying how even MD students don't match into those super competitive specialties. I don't consider myself to be super bright, and research isn't really my thing... Is MD worth it for me?? Post merger question also (Source: Student Doctor Network)

DO student wondering about MD NSG chances?
I'm a MS3 at a DO school but want to apply MD neurosurgery. With the merger, there are only 2 formerly DO programs that have gotten MD accreditation thus far (for a total of 3 residency spots). I'm strongly considering not applying to NSG d/t the high probability (in my mind) that I will not match as a DO student. Do you guys think I can match? Debating withdrawing acceptance to pursue MD
Last spring I applied narrowly (6 DO, 6MD) with the idea that I wanted to pursue FM. Now I have worked in ortho for nearly a year and believe I have found my calling. I have been accepted to several “top tier” DO programs (DMU,KCU,ATSU; deposit paid at DMU), however am considering withdrawing and applying broadly to MD programs this upcoming cycle. My interpretation of the AOA/ACGME merger is that DO grads hoping to pursue ortho will be fighting an even steeper uphill battle (programs...
