Affordability of Alcoholic Beverages in the European Union
Conclusions: Alcohol is affordable in the Member States of the European Union and associated countries, and low levels of excise duties on beer and wine appear to be unrelated to their affordability. Alcohol taxes should be increased to effectively reduce the affordability of alcoholic beverages in order to lower the alcohol-related health burden in Europe.Eur Addict Res (Source: European Addiction Research)

Intensive care medicine in Europe: perspectives from the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care
CONCLUSION Amongst the 42 European national societies surveyed (41 members of ESAIC-NASC plus Luxembourg), nineteen (45%) also include terms related to critical care medicine or ICM in their names, seven (17%) include terms related to reanimation and three (7%) to resuscitation. In recent years, several national societies revised their names to better reflect their gradual embrace of peri-operative medicine, ICM, CREM and pain management. Approximately 70% of ICU beds in Europe, and 100% in Scandinavia, are being run by anaesthesiologists, the remaining 30% being managed by physicians from other surgical or medical spe...

Food labeling in the European Union: a review of existing approaches
Margarita Peonides, Verena Knoll, Nina Gerstner, Raffael Heiss, Markus Frischhut, Nikhil Gokani International Journal of Health Governance, Vol. 27, No. 4, pp.460-468 This review explores the phenomenon of front-of-pack nutrition labels (FoPNLs) in the European Union (EU). FoPNLs highlight the nutritional quality of food and non-alcoholic beverages and help consumers to make healthier choices. The review explores different types of FoPNLs and evaluates their effectiveness.A policy analysis was conducted, relying on extant academic literature, grey literature and policy documents. The use of current FoPNLs is interpreted i...

Metaphenotypes associated with recurrent genomic lineages of Campylobacter jejuni responsible for human infections in Luxembourg
Campylobacter jejuni is a leading cause of foodborne illnesses worldwide. Although considered fragile, this microaerophilic bacterium is able to survive in various challenging environments, which subsequently constitutes multiple sources of transmission for human infection. To test the assumption of acquiring specific features for adaptation and survival, we established a workflow of phenotypic tests related to the survival and the persistence of recurrent and sporadic strains. A representative collection of 83 strains isolated over 13 years from human, mammal, poultry, and environmental sources in Luxembourg, representing...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 9968: The Effect of Transborder Mobility on COVID-19 Incidences in Belgium
nberghen Belgium is a geographically small country bordered by The Netherlands, France, Germany, and Luxembourg, with intense transborder mobility, defined as mobility in the border regions with neighboring countries. It is therefore of interest to examine how the 14-day COVID-19 confirmed case incidence in the border regions is influenced by that of the adjacent regions in the neighboring countries and thus, whether and how it differs from that in the adjacent non-border regions within Belgium. To this end, the 14-day COVID-19 confirmed case incidence is studied at the level of Belgian provinces, well-defined border a...

International cooperation needed to improve national anterior cruciate ligament registries
ConclusionIt is possible to develop accessible, cost-effective and entirely web-based ACL registries —as demonstrated by the Danish and Swedish registries—respecting the national legislation of different countries. This study supports the introduction of new ACL prospective registries in other countries to obtain valuable information for implementing daily clinical practice.Level of evidenceIV.
