Evolving role of viadisc for chronic low back and discogenic pain: a narrative review
Expert Opin Emerg Drugs. 2024 Apr 11. doi: 10.1080/14728214.2024.2339912. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Chronic lower back pain is a leading cause of disability and healthcare spending worldwide. Discogenic pain, pain originating from the intervertebral disk, is a common etiology of chronic lower back pain. Currently, accepted treatments for chronic discogenic pain focus only on the management of symptoms, such as pain. There are no approved treatments that stop or reverse degenerating intervertebral discs. Biologic therapies promoting disc regeneration have been developed to expand treatment options. VIADISC...

Manual rolling load and low back pain among workers in Japan: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Rolling weights between 40 and 400 kg could place a high stress on the lower back. Implementation of the HSE recommendations regarding rolling load in Japan should be carefully considered.PMID:38604161 | DOI:10.1093/joccuh/uiae015 (Source: Journal of Occupational Health)

Validity and reliability of Japanese version of MAPO index for assessing manual patient handling in nursing homes
CONCLUSIONS: High inter-rater reliability and J-MAPO risk levels were associated with LBP. Therefore, our results suggest that the J-MAPO is a useful risk assessment tool for LBP in Japanese nursing homes.PMID:38604159 | DOI:10.1093/joccuh/uiae016 (Source: Journal of Occupational Health)

Physician Empathy and Chronic Pain Outcomes
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this cohort study of adult patients with chronic pain, physician empathy was associated with better outcomes over 12 months. Greater efforts to cultivate and improve physician empathy appear warranted.PMID:38602675 | DOI:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2024.6026 (Source: Pain Physician)

How low back pain is managed-a mixed methods study in 32 countries. Part 2 of Low Back Pain in Low- and Middle-Income Countries Series
J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2024 Apr 11:1-42. doi: 10.2519/jospt.2024.12406. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The Lancet Series of Low Back Pain (LBP) highlighted the lack of LBP data from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The study aimed to describe (1) what LBP care is currently delivered in LMICs, and (2) how that care is delivered. METHODS: An online mixed-methods study. A Consortium for LBP in LMICs (n=65) was developed with an expert panel of leading LBP researchers (>2 publications on LBP) and multidisciplinary clinicians and patient partners with five years of clinical/lived LBP experience in LMI...
