Blood Donation-Related Adverse Reactions: Results of an Online Survey among Donors in Germany (2018)
Discussion: This survey yielded a more comprehensive AR spectrum, revealed a prolonged time to symptom onset, and identified risk factors for AR. This novel information could be implemented in an amended informed consent addressing common and rare AR.Transfus Med Hemother (Source: Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy)

The Alterations in Methylene Blue/Light-Treated Frozen Plasma Proteins Revealed by Proteomics
Conclusion: This comparative proteomics study revealed that some significantly modified proteins occur in MB-FP, such as C1R, ITI-H4, KRT1, HPX, FGG, and TTR. Our findings provide more theoretical data for using MB-FP in transfusion medicine. However, the relevance of the data for the transfusion of methylene blue/light-treated plasma remains unclear. The exact modification of these proteins and the effects of these modified proteins on their functions and their effects in clinical plasma infusion need to be further studied.Transfus Med Hemother (Source: Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy)

An Evaluation of Morphological Changes and Deformability of Suspended Red Blood Cells Prepared Using Whole Blood with Different Hemoglobin Levels of Tibetans
Conclusions: There was no difference in deformability or morphological changes in the 3 groups over the 35 days of storage. High HGB levels of plateau SRBC did not accelerate the RBC change from a biconcave disc into a spherical shape and it did not cause a reduction in deformability during 35 days of preservation in bank conditions.Transfus Med Hemother (Source: Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy)

Monitoring of COVID-19-Associated Coagulopathy and Anticoagulation with Thromboelastometry
Conclusion: In a disease such as COVID-19, which has profound effects on hemostasis and coagulation, viscoelastometry may aid in patient triage, disease course monitoring, and anticoagulation management.Transfus Med Hemother (Source: Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy)

Genotyping of Eight Human Platelet Antigen Systems in Serbian Blood Donors: Foundation for Platelet Apheresis Registry
This study was enabled by the introduction of molecular HPA typing, and it provides initial results of the HPA allele and genotype frequencies in the population of blood donors in Serbia. They will be used to provide a compatible blood supply on demand for treating patients with alloimmune thrombocytopenic disorders. The successful implementation of PCR-SSP with fluorometric signal detection could be further complemented in the future by the introduction of high-throughput methods, which will largely depend on the available financial resources.Transfus Med Hemother (Source: Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy)

To Give or Not to Give: RhD Immunoglobulin for an < b > < i > RHD < /i > < /b > * < b > < i > 39 < /i > < /b > Pregnant Woman with Sickle Cell Disease
Conclusion: Ms. S represents a rareRHD*39 and partialRHCE*ceVS.02 genotype which did not further alloimmunize in the absence of RhIG administration. Her case also highlights the importance of routine anti-G alloantibody testing in women of childbearing age with apparent anti-D and anti-C alloantibodies.Transfus Med Hemother (Source: Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy)

P-Null Phenotype Due to a Rare Frame-Shift Mutation and with Allo-Anti-PP1Pk Causing a Severe Hemolytic Transfusion Reaction: A Case Report with Clinical Management
Conclusion:This report documents a rare case of the P-null phenotype with an alloanti-PP1Pk causing a severe HTR to transfusion of the trial dose of the least incompatible blood. The case is the first example of this specificA4GALTmutation found in India.Transfus Med Hemother (Source: Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy)

Neonatal Immune Neutropenia due to Isoantibodies against the Granulocyte Receptor Fc γRIIIb
We report a case of asymptomatic isoimmune neutropenia in a pair of preterm twins. Genotyping confirmed that the mother was negative for HNA-1a, 1b, and 1c, consistent with an Fc γRIIIb deficiency. The father was 1(a+b+c–) and the neonates were 1(a–b+c–). A strongly positive result was observed in the granulocyte immunofluorescence test against paternal neutrophils (IgG antibodies). IgG anti-CD16b isoantibodies were detected in the mother’s breast milk. Neutropenia resolved after 28 days without requiring any specific treatments.Discussion: Even though neonatal alloimmune neutropenia (NAN) is usually benign and se...

Effect of Methylene Blue Pathogen Inactivation on the Integrity of Immunoglobulin M and G
Conclusion: MB treatment of plasma does not inhibit the binding capacity of IgM and IgG to their epitopes, or the Fc receptor interaction of IgG. Based on these results, MB treatment of convalescent plasma is appropriate to reduce the risk of pathogen transmission if quarantine storage is omitted.Transfus Med Hemother (Source: Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy)
