Etio ‐histomorphogenesis of Styloid enlargement ‐ A Novel & Extensive Light Microscopic Analysis of Ten cases of Eagle ’s Syndrome.
ConclusionRepetitive stress, traction or traumatic stimuli brought to bear upon the apices and lateral surfaces of styloid processes via tendinous insertions of the SL and styloid group of muscles, as a result of neck and hyoid movements, are likely to serve as triggering factors, stimulating an osseous metaplasia of connective cells within these mesenchymal structures as well as in the periosteal fibrous tissue, into osteoblasts and osteocytes. This reactive response is followed by osteogenesis and laying down of woven bone at these sites, resulting in increase in length and circumference of the SPs and their attendant, a...

Going through a rough patch: oral adverse effects of secukinumab
AbstractChronic hyperplastic candidiasis (CHC) clinically presents with white plaques involving the post-commissural buccal mucosa and less frequently, the tongue. Common risk factors include xerostomia, smoking, post-chemotherapy or radiotherapy, antibiotic use, vitamin deficiency and immunosuppression. Here, we present a case of CHC secondary to secukinumab.A 38-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of asymptomatic white plaques involving the lateral tongue and buccal mucosa. The medical history included chronic plaque psoriasis controlled with secukinumab 300mg monthly, initiated 6 months prior to presentation. ...

Orthodontic extraction of deeply impacted lower third molar with temporary anchorage device on the ramus
DiscussionTo avoid IAN injury, coronectomy and orthodontic extraction were investigated by many studies, TADs at the ramus were demonstrated to be a reliable method for orthodontic extraction. Larger sample number and randomized controlled trial are recommended. (Source: Oral Surgery)

Evaluating the role of intra articular injection of platelet ‐rich fibrin in the management of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis: A STROBE compliant retrospective study
AbstractOsteoarthritis (OA) is a debilitating disease. A number of treatments like conservative approach, minimally invasive procedures and surgical therapy have proved to be beneficial. However, there is no consensus regarding the use of a single modality of treatment. Our current study evaluates the role of intra articular injection iPRF along with arthrocentesis for the management of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ-OA). A total of 130 patients were selected and divided into two groups, Group A (arthrocentesis only group) and Group B (arthrocentesis +i-PRF). Patients were evaluated for pain scores and maximal...

Lateral augmentation of the posterior edentulous mandible: A retrospective single arm comparison of ridge split, block bone grafts and guided bone regeneration
ConclusionRidge split followed by onlay block bone grafting provides the best outcomes. Ramus and symphysis grafts are comparable. Iliac grafts are still the best for significant augmentations. Guided bone regeneration suffers maximum resorption. (Source: Oral Surgery)

Persistent hyposalivation in patients after COVID ‐19 infection: Temporary or lasting alteration?
AbstractIt was with great interest that we read the letter written by Martelli J únioret al. (2021).1 To our knowledge, it is the first study to evaluate the frequency of alterations in salivary glands by COVID-19 in Brazil. The COVID-19 is a defiant infectious disease due to systemic complications and potential sequelae.2 The invasion of oral epithelial cells by SARS-CoV-2 may result in damage to glandular parenchyma.
