Perioperative intravenous clindamycin anaphylaxis following cutaneous acne gel sensitization
We describe perioperative anaphylaxis following intravenous clindamycin in two healthy adolescent patients with prior transcutaneous clindamycin sensitization. Prior to their third molar extractions, both patients were only previously exposed to clindamycin via topical acne gels, which primed their immune system for the observed response. Cognizance of the classic signs of anaphylaxis is paramount so that any procedure or infusion can be halted immediately, and the condition treated appropriately. We anticipate the frequency of such reactions to increase, particularly among adolescents, given the frequency of clindamycin u...

Advanced sedation in oral surgery as an alternative to General Anaesthetic; a service evaluation
ConclusionsThe use of an advanced sedation service has demonstrated successful outcomes and reduced reliance on theatre resources. The use of polypharmacy; midazolam and propofol, provides a safe, effective and efficient modality to perform complex procedures in an outpatient hospital setting. Advanced sedation techniques can be particularly effective in the management of complex procedures, dental anxiety and in adolescent and medically complex patients. Patient engagement supports the service as an effective option for delivering quality care. (Source: Oral Surgery)

A Retrospective Study to Identify the Compliance with SDCEP Guidelines of Exodontia Patients Taking Oral Anticoagulant and Antiplatelet Medication
ConclusionsEach treatment plan should be considered on an individual basis, combining clinician expertise and clinical guidelines to optimise patient care. Areas of poor compliance were identified with further research being required to comprehend how compliance with the literature alters post-operative haemostatic complications. (Source: Oral Surgery)

Commonly used dental mouthwashes and SARS ‐CoV‐2—The road to what we know today
AbstractThe aim of this brief overview is to give clinicians a background for assessing publications presenting in vivo human clinical trials regarding the effect of common dental mouthwashes on SARS-CoV-2 virus. It explains how the effects of oral mouthwashes on oro-nasally transmitted infectious virus was assessed in the early phase of the Covid-19 pandemic. The method of virus quantification including effect measures and factors, trial design that may cause flaws in the effect estimates presented in publications are explained. The status of in vivo human clinical trials regarding the anti-virucidal effect of sodium laur...
