Gingival Plasma Cell Granuloma: The Importance of Histological Analysis
We report a rare case of PCG presenting on the buccal gingivae of the posterior mandible, with concurrent mobility of the adjacent tooth, in a middle aged female. The clinical presentation of this lesion warranted urgent investigation however histological findings of a dense polyclonal plasma cell infiltrate revealed a benign PCG. (Source: Oral Surgery)

Central granular cell odontogenic tumor associated with sepsis, osteonecrosis and osteomyelitis: A case report
This report describes an unusual case of CGCOT as it was associated with severe signs of local and systemic infection. The patient was hospitalized for sepsis, high fever and facial swelling. The intraoral examination and the radiographic images led to the clinical diagnosis of periapical abscess caused by a severely decayed left maxillary third molar. After the surgical extraction of the tooth, a periapical lesion and fragments of the alveolar process were sent for histopathologic examination and immune-phenotypic characterization. The pathological findings became crucial for the definitive diagnosis of CGCOT, osteonecros...

Scientific management of mandibular third molar germ: a case report and literature review
This article showed a case of routine mandibular third molar germ extraction, and aims to discuss the analysis of the third molar angulation, retromolar space, crown width, root development, and other factors through the panoramic tomography taken during the tooth germ period, and predict the possibility of third molar impaction. At the same time, according to the predicted results, preventive tooth germ extraction or scientific management of tooth germs for the highly likely impacted molars. Compared with fully mature impacted teeth, tooth germ extraction can reduce the difficulty of surgery and reduce trauma. (Source: Oral Surgery)

Combigraft versus Bio ‐Oss/Bio‐Gide in alveolar ridge preservation: A prospective randomized controlled trial
AbstractThe aim of this prospective study was to compare Combigraft with Bio-Oss/Bio-Gide complex in alveolar bone preservation in terms of clinical, laboratory and radiographic outcomes in a randomised controlled trial. 80 patients undergoing tooth extraction with the requirement of alveolar bone preservation were randomly allocated to the experimental and control groups. A total of 75 patients completed the study; 37 in the experimental group and 38 in the control group. Two patients who did not fully complete the study but had at least one record on the follow-up period were analysed, significantly, 73 teeth among 77 de...

Liver Clot
We examined an 87-year-old woman at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore regarding a persistent asymptomatic clot a week post uneventful extraction of a mobile right maxillary 2nd molar. Her clinical history revealed that she was diagnosed with rheumatic arthritis 5 years prior and was currently on Chloroquine. Her blood investigations revealed mild thrombocytopenia (1,26000 cells/cumm). (Source: Oral Surgery)

Non ‐surgical management of oro‐antral communication using platelet‐rich fibrin: A review of the literature
AbstractOro-antral communication (OAC) is an opening between the maxillary sinus and the oral cavity, which can provide a pathway to cause an infection of the maxillary sinus. Although surgical techniques propose many advantages, several drawbacks have been reported in the previous studies. Bioactive modifiers such as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) are widely being used in oral surgery. Various studies have been conducted for closure of OACs using PRF. Due to the heterogeneity of the techniques found, we opted for a literature review to highlight the variety of techniques discussed in the literature. A comprehensive search of ...

Use of advanced intravenous conscious sedation techniques in complex oral surgery procedures: comparison of midazolam, midazolam ‐propofol, and midazolam‐propofol‐alfentanil combinations
ConclusionIn patients requiring conscious sedation to undergo complex and lengthy oral surgery, a combination of agents (midazolam, propofol and alfentanil) can provide a predictable steady state of sedation up to the end of the surgery resulting in better operating conditions for the surgeon and improved patient co-operation. The shorter duration of action drugs propofol and alfentanil improved haemodynamic stability, sedation quality and reduce the final doses of each sedative agent. (Source: Oral Surgery)

Multi ‐disciplinary management of an unusual presentation of bilateral mandibular dentigerous cysts in a non‐syndromic child
ConclusionThis is a highly unusual presentation of bilateral mandibular dentigerous cysts in a non-syndromic child. Successful multi-disciplinary care between the paediatric, oral surgery and orthodontic departments yielded an extremely favourable outcome for this challenging case. Paediatric dentists should be aware of this unusual presentation, the subsequent appropriate referral pathway and the promising feasibility of successful orthodontic alignment of the affected teeth.
