UK oral surgeons' early response to the COVID ‐19 pandemic and impact on patient care
ConclusionThe COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted UK oral surgery services particularly in the early stage and highlight the lack of preparedness. As availability of PPE and evidence on aerosol-generating procedures and infection control became more readily accessible, surgeons became more confident to provide emergency surgical treatment rather than just phone consultations. The impact on patients' oral health is likely to have been profound. (Source: Oral Surgery)

Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis – An update and rare case presentation
AbstractLangerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare condition caused by the abnormal proliferation of a type of dendritic cell of the immune system (Langerhans cells). Accumulation of the cells can take place in one or multiple organs of the body and results in localised tissue destruction. The most commonly affected site is the bones and 50% of these cases present in facial bones, meaning an awareness of the condition by dental specialists is important.Although debated, LCH is currently categorised as a cancerous process that is treated in some cases with chemotherapy. It ’s first mention in medical literature was in ...

Outcome and success rate of dental autotransplantation: A long ‐term evaluation of 144 teeth
ConclusionThese findings support that tooth autotransplantation is a reliable treatment and preferred solution for early tooth loss in children and young patients. Furthermore, it demands the professionals the correct evaluation as well as to create the necessary conditions regarding the site receptor, tooth to be transplanted, quality of the surgical procedure, aesthetic complement and periodic control of each case. What recent evidence exists to support the use of platelet ‐rich fibrin in clinical dentistry? A systematic literature review
AbstractPlatelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a second-generation platelet concentrate and biomaterial with multiple applications in clinical dentistry. Recent developments in the production of PRF have resulted in several divergent protocols that could be seen to affect the reproducibility and generalisability of the available literature. Additionally, imprecise reporting on PRF production is a further confounding factor with respect to previous trial data. The primary aim of this review was to assess the recent clinical trial data relating to the use of PRF, irrespective of centrifugal protocol, in clinical dentistry. A systemat...

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma with metaplastic bone formation —A deceptive radiological presentation
AbstractMucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is one of the most common primary salivary gland malignancies in both children and adults. MECs containing calcifications are rare, but well described in the literature. In contrast, there are only two case reports of MECs showing intra-tumoural bone formation. MECs associated with calcifications occur more frequently in minor salivary glands, compared to bone formation, which is more commonly seen in major glands. This possibly points to a different pathogenic mechanism. Calcifications of the head and neck region are generally diagnosed on conventional imaging by combining the anatom...
