Contact Lens– and Patient-related Factors Associated with Contact Lens Discomfort among Contact Lens Wearers in an African Cohort
CONCLUSIONS
In considering the use of contact lenses for refractive correction in this population, strategies for preventing contact lens discomfort that should be targeted include use of low-water-content lenses, disinfecting with multipurpose solutions, and reducing the time spent daily on visual display terminal use. Diagnostic Capability of a New Objective Method to Assess Meibomian Gland Visibility
This study aimed to evaluate the ability of new metrics to better diagnose MGD, based on measuring meibomian gland visibility.
METHODS
One hundred twelve healthy volunteers (age, 48.3 ± 27.5 years) were enrolled in this study. Ocular surface parameters were measured using the Oculus Keratograph 5M (Oculus GmbH, Wetzlar). Subjects were classified according to the presence or absence of MGD. New metrics based on the visibility of the meibomian glands were calculated and later compared between groups. The diagnostic ability of ocular surface parameters and gland visibility metrics was studied through receiver operatin...

Utilizing Advanced Technology to Facilitate Diagnosis of Rare Retinal Disorders: A Case of Bietti Crystalline Dystrophy
CONCLUSIONS
Rare ocular diseases like Bietti crystalline dystrophy can be encountered by optometrists. This case report shows the ophthalmic findings of a rare chorioretinal dystrophy and provides insight on how to better use advanced equipment in an optometric practice to facilitate prompt diagnoses. Case Report: Multimodal Imaging of Acute Idiopathic Maculopathy in a Chinese Woman
CONCLUSIONS
Our findings suggest that near-infrared reflectance corresponds to the change of the outer retina and retinal pigment epithelium on OCT and complements autofluorescence in the diagnosis and follow-up of acute idiopathic maculopathy. Fundus autofluorescence, near-infrared reflectance, and OCT are recommended as routine examinations in this disease. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Case Report: Atypical Presentation of Neuroretinitis in a Middle-aged Woman with Pre-existing Maculopathy
CONCLUSIONS
Absence of the classical “macular star” appearance does not refute the diagnosis of neuroretinitis when pre-existing maculopathy is present. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Case Report: Subconjunctival Triamcinolone Acetate–associated Scleral Necrosis: Is It Really Obsolete?
CONCLUSIONS
Scleral necrosis is a potential complication of subconjunctival triamcinolone acetate. Judicious and cautious use of subconjunctival triamcinolone acetate is advocated for nonresolving anterior scleritis. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Effect of Water Exposure on Contact Lens Storage Case Contamination in Soft Lens Wearers
CONCLUSIONS
Water contact behavior while wearing lenses is prevalent among soft lens wearers and is associated with higher case contamination. Practitioners may improve contact lens education to reduce water exposure and case contamination to reduce the risk of lens-related adverse events. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

The Effects of Center-near and Center-distance Multifocal Contact Lenses on Peripheral Defocus and Visual Acuity
SIGNIFICANCE
Multifocal contact lenses (MFCLs) are being used clinically for myopia control. Center-distance designs caused myopic changes in defocus across the retina that varied by lens design, whereas the center-near design caused peripheral hyperopic changes. Multifocal lenses caused reductions in low-contrast vision that varied by lens design, affecting visual performance.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to compare changes in defocus with four MFCLs, three center-distance and one center-near.
METHODS
Two cohorts of 25 nonpresbyopic myopic adults were enrolled. The first cohort was fitted with P...
