Case Report: Dry Eye Management Leads to Early Diagnosis of Seventh Nerve Schwannoma
CONCLUSIONS Facial nerve schwannomas can and do present with no presenting subjective facial neuropathy symptoms aside from mild unilateral dry eye and can be detected with comprehensive dry eye management. This case may contribute to future minor adjustments in clinical practice guidelines for asymmetric dry eye assessments. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Case Report: Bilateral Cranial Nerve VI Palsy in Miller Fisher Syndrome
CONCLUSIONS Diplopia is a symptom commonly encountered by eye care providers, regardless of their mode of practice. Although there are many potential etiologies of diplopia, performing a comprehensive eye examination combined with a neurologic evaluation can potentially pinpoint the specific cause. Miller Fisher syndrome is one such condition in which the diagnostic triad can be uncovered with in-office ocular motility testing and neurologic examination. Eye care providers need to be aware of the clinical features of Miller Fisher syndrome to aid in prompt diagnosis and treatment for patients with this acute condition....

Case Series: Glioblastoma Highlighting the Eye Care Provider's Role
CONCLUSIONS It is incumbent upon eye care providers to recognize examination findings such as new neurological symptoms and/or visual field defects that may warrant additional workup. In addition, eye care providers can serve a palliative role by maximizing the patient's remaining visual function and thereby quality of life. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Case Report: Polyneuropathy Pituitary Apoplexy with Normal Perimetry and Initially Normal Neuroimaging
CONCLUSIONS New or worsening headache with signs and symptoms of hypopituitarism should immediately be investigated for pituitary apoplexy. Other possible findings include involvement of cranial nerves III through VI because of cavernous sinus involvement and visual deficits if the optic chiasm or intracranial portion of the optic nerve is involved. However, growth may be lateral, and no visual deficits may be found, as in this case. Multiple concurrent cranial neuropathies should increase suspicion for cavernous sinus involvement. Case Report: Retinal Infarction Associated with Migraine
CONCLUSIONS A case of permanent vision loss with retinal thinning and ischemic hyperreflectivity of retinal layers on optical coherence tomography in different vascular territories is shown to be associated with migraine. These features may provide clinical evidence of migrainous pathophysiology within the retina. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Refractive Error of Students (15- to 18-year-olds) in Northwest Mexico
CONCLUSIONS Our results are consistent with a high prevalence of myopia reported in adolescents worldwide and in Mexico's northern regions. The results suggest that students attending high school and entering universities should be required to have an optometric eye examination. Additional studies are needed to investigate the prevalence of refractive errors in children in Mexico. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

In Vitro Antibiotic Resistance among Bacteria from the Cornea in the Antibiotic Resistance Monitoring in Ocular MicRoorganisms Surveillance Study
This study aimed to report on in vitro susceptibility patterns among corneal isolates collected in the Antibiotic Resistance Monitoring in Ocular micRoorganisms (ARMOR) study. METHODS Each year, from 2009 to 2019, Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Haemophilus influenzae isolates cultured from patients with ocular infections at participating ARMOR sites were submitted to a central laboratory for species confirmation and antibiotic susceptibility testing. In this analysis of corneal isolates, odds ratios for concurrent resistance were ...

Comparison of Static Retinal Vessel Caliber Measurements by Different Commercially Available Platforms
CONCLUSIONS Although absolute caliber measurements differed between the platforms, the correlations observed were of similar magnitudes, with good agreement between the two platforms. Tighter spaced limits of agreement were observed when right and left eye data were averaged for each subject. In the absence of localized ocular pathology, this approach should be used. Patient and Provider Perspectives on Glaucoma Treatment Adherence: A Delphi Study in Urban Alabama
CONCLUSIONS Although patients and providers prioritized sociobehavioral factors as key determinants of adherence, disagreement between these groups was observed in other areas. Continued juxtaposition of patient and provider perspectives could spotlight underexplored areas and guide the development of successful interventions for improving adherence. Physician Prescribing and Referral Patterns in Children with Cerebral Visual Impairment
CONCLUSIONS Children with less severe CVI were less likely to have significant refractive error but given glasses. Despite significant refractive error, children with more severe CVI were not prescribed glasses. Children with very low visual function were not prescribed glasses as frequently, possibly limiting their visual rehabilitation. Providers should ensure that all children with CVI are correctly prescribed glasses to provide the best possible visual outcome. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)

Test-retest Repeatability of the Ohio Contrast Cards
CONCLUSIONS The Ohio Contrast Cards and Pelli-Robson chart are similarly repeatable. Both contrast sensitivity tests can provide additional clinical information that is not available through visual acuity testing, and Ohio Contrast Card may provide additional information not available from the Pelli-Robson chart. Association between Vision Impairment and Physical Quality of Life Assessed Using National Surveillance Data
CONCLUSIONS National surveillance data demonstrate a greater number of physically unhealthy days in the visually impaired population, indicating a need to improve our understanding of causes that lead to reduced physical health among those with vision impairment. Additional research is needed to better understand how individuals perceive vision as part of their overall health. (Source: Optometry and Vision Science)
